LAS IT's Introductory Newsletter!!!

Hello and welcome to the LAS IT's first newsletter. Our goal is to send out a quarterly newsletter highlighting important news and information as it relates to IT operations within the Liberal Arts and Sciences College. We hope you will find the information contained in this newsletter helpful and informative.

LAS IT Welcomes a New Member to Our Support Staff
Thebao Nguyen joins the LAS IT Team as our newest Information Technology Service Associate .

Thebao most recently worked in IT Support for Richard J. College for The City Colleges of Chicago. Please join us in welcoming Thebao to the UIC family.
Virtual Private Network - VPN Update
The UIC Virtual Private Network (VPN) service offers a secure connection to university networks, enabling access to resources that are restricted to on-campus use. ACCC has recently released a new VPN solution, replacing Viscosity OpenVPN with Cisco AnyConnect software, which provides improved security, stability, and performance .

For anyone requiring assistance with installing the new Cisco AnyConnect VPN product, kindly open up a Helpdesk Ticket by emailing our support team at [email protected].

Windows 7 End of Support
After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will discontinue support for computers running Windows 7. Because of this, security updates will also no longer be provided by Microsoft, and any undiscovered or unpatched vulnerabilities could expose users to malware. LAS IT will be reaching out to units who may still have systems running Windows 7, however, if you know you have Windows 7 systems and would like to upgrade as soon as possible, please contact us at   [email protected]

The new LAS IT site in RED has launched and we encourage everyone to visit the site to learn more about the LAS IT Department, our team and offerings.

Opening an IT support ticket via the LAS IT Website is also the most efficient way to create a support request ticket.

IT Preparations for Fall 2019
As we near the end of the Spring 2019 term, the LAS IT Department is already starting preparations for the upcoming Fall 2019 semester.

LAS IT can assist with some of the following services and more:

  • Disk Scrubbing/Data Sanitation
