LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR
PROBATE DIVISION - CHANGES TO JUDICIAL ASSIGNMENTS
  
Effective October 30, 2017, the Probate Division implemented the following changes:
 
Judge Daniel J. Juarez is reassigned from Mental Health Division to Probate Division, Stanley Mosk Courthouse, Room 243C.  Judge Juarez will provide coverage for other probate judicial officers as required, and conduct settlement conferences.
 
Judge Barbara R. Johnson will preside over a newly added probate calendar courtroom, Department 57, at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.
 
In addition to minor's compromise petitions that are currently heard in the Antelope Valley Courthouse, expedited minor's compromise petitions will be accepted for filing in Antelope Valley and assigned to Commissioner Scott J. Nord, Department A12.  All other expedited minor's compromise petitions will continue to be accepted for filing and be heard at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.
 
Counsel and parties are instructed to indicate the assigned judicial officer and department on the first page of all documents submitted for filing, to ensure proper department assignment, calendaring of hearings and document routing.
LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR
ANNOUNCES LIMITED JURISDICTION UNLAWFUL DETAINER (EVICTION) CASES TO BE HEARD IN EVERY JUDICIAL DISTRICT
  
Effective October 10, 2017, LASC will expand limited jurisdiction unlawful detainer operations from 7 to 11 courthouses as follows:

MENTAL HEALTH DIVISION - CHANGES TO JUDICIAL ASSIGNMENTS
  
Effective October 23, 2017, the Mental Health Division implemented the following changes, at the Metropolitan Courthouse located at 1945 S. Hill Street, Los Angeles:
 
Judge Robert Harrison will relocate from Department 95C to Department 95A and will handle LPS Conservatorships.
 
Judge Donna Quigley Groman will relocate from the Compton Courthouse to Department 95C and will handle competency hearings and non-LPS Conservatorship Mental Health case types.

LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR
SOUTH DISTRICT ANNOUNCES 2018 CATALINA COURTHOUSE SCHEDULE
  
The LASC, Catalina Courthouse, located at 215 Sumner Avenue, Avalon, CA 90704, is in session every other Friday as outlined below.  Documents can be filed at the Clerk's Office at the Catalina Courthouse on alternating Fridays when the courthouse is open.
 
To file documents that are not time-sensitive, a drop-box is available at the Avalon Sheriff's Station, also located at 215 Sumner Avenue.  These documents will be processed on the next day the courthouse is open.
 
Alternatively, documents may be filed at the Long Beach Courthouse, located at 275 Magnolia, Long Beach 90802, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.
 
The Catalina Courthouse will hear matters on the following dates in 2018:
 
January 12 and 26
February 9 and 23
March 9 and 23
April 6 and 20
May 4 and 18
June 1, 15, and 29
July 13 and 27
August 10 and 24
September 7 and 21
October 5 and 19

LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR
CHANGES TO FILINGS AND JUDICIAL ASSIGNMENTS AT SANTA MONICA COURTHOUSE

Effective TODAY - November 1, 2017, the Santa Monica Courthouse will no longer accept filings for family law cases, except for documents requesting civil harassment restraining orders and petitions for domestic violence.
 
Family law matters previously filed at the Santa Monica Courthouse will be accepted for filing at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse located at 111 N. Hill Street, LA 90012
 
Effective January 2, 2018, the Santa Monica Courthouse will convert Department F from a general family law courtroom to a long cause trial and settlement courtroom which will also continue to handle restraining order cases. 
 
Self Help Center services will continue to be provided at the Santa Monica Courthouse.
 
The following judicial officer assignment changes will also be made:
 
Effective October 10, 2017, Commissioner Matthew St. George is reassigned from Department F to Department E, where he will preside over small claims cases.
 
Effective October 30, 2017, Judge Hank M. Goldberg will be reassigned from the Stanley Mosk Courthouse to Department F, the new family long cause courtroom, in Santa Monica.

Next Friday, November 10, Superior courts and Federal courts will be closed observing Veterans Day.
