ULC WINS TOP HONOR FOR TRIGGER TERMS

Trigger Terms: Harmful Detours and Healing Redirects

2022 ASAE Summit Award Winner

The Urban Libraries Council has earned a 2022 ASAE Summit Award — the highest recognition bestowed by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) — for the Trigger Terms: Harmful Detours and Healing Redirects framework. This award distinguishes the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global levels in going above and beyond their missions to benefit society and improve our quality of life.

Launched in 2021, ULC’s Trigger Terms framework is designed to help leaders grow alignment, surface misunderstandings and find paths forward through difficult conversations. With the language developed with the guidance of ULC's Anti-Racism action team, the framework names polarizing and conflicting terms as well as interpretations that can derail productive conversations (“harmful detours”) and suggests translations to foster mutual respect and understanding (“healing redirects”).

Let's Get Cooking in Markham

Markham Public Library

This summer, Markham Public Library is celebrating its 11th Annual Markham Reads event by soliciting recipes from patrons for a new cookbook. Patrons in the community are all all reading the same title Have You Eaten Yet? by author Cheuk Kwan. The book tells stories of Chinese entrepreneurs and restaurateurs who have brought delicious Chinese food across the globe.
