2022 ULC Annual Forum: Creating a Place for Democracy

Washington, D.C. | November 16-18

This November 16-18, the 2022 ULC Annual Forum: Creating a Place for Democracy invites executive library leaders to Washington, D.C. to engage in expert-led sessions on preserving democracy and cultivating the future of libraries as a central pillar within our communities.

Registration for the 2022 ULC Annual Forum is now open. Stay tuned to ULC's social media (#ULCForum22), website and newsletter for additional details. ULC has reserved a hotel room block at the Grand Hyatt Washington for attendees. Information on booking a hotel room will be provided to attendees in the Annual Forum registration confirmation email. Early bird rates will end September 30.

Hosted by the DC Public Library, this important event will bring together leaders from major urban library systems across the U.S. and Canada.

WAYS TO ENGAGE WITH ULC

ULC's Action Teams establish new models, techniques and approaches that can help all libraries lead their communities into a stronger post-pandemic future. This initiative's work is being led by action teams comprised of over 60 total leaders from ULC libraries, who are focused on identifying immediate ways that all libraries can overcome key challenges in the COVID-19 era.

Chief Librarian Mark Williams Receives Queen’s Jubilee Pin

Milton Public Library

Earlier this month, Milton Public Library’s Chief Librarian Mark Williams was presented with the Queen’s Jubilee Pin for exceptional service and dedication to support the Milton community by Milton MP Adam van Koeverden. “To say I was taken aback is an understatement and I am humbled and honored to receive this award. My utmost and sincerest gratitude is extended to MPL Ambassador and federal Milton MP, Adam Van Koeverden for being such an advocate for everything we do,” shares Chief Librarian and recipient, Mark Williams.

New Transit Partnership Spurs Reading in Sacramento

Sacramento Public Library

SacRT teamed up with the Sacramento Public Library to create Sacramento’s first Rolling Library Train, allowing riders to sit back, relax and read a book! Resembling bookshelves on the walls, riders can take out their phone and scan the QR code leading them to Sacramento Library App where they can download ebooks or audiobooks for free.

Providing Entrepreneurial and Creative Resources in Richland

Richland Library

Richland Library’s Library of Things offers patrons the free alternative of buying supplies through their extensive collection of ladders, pressure tools, sewing machines, scanners, laminators and more! “Our purpose is to allow people to check out objects that might be cost-prohibitive or space-prohibitive,” said Richland Library Arts and Media Assistant Manager Kelsey Andrus. “Or if you don’t know if you want that particular model, you can kind of test it out.”
