New Exhibit Features the History of East San José
San José Public Library
San José Public Library is collaborating with San José State University King Library’s Africana, Asian American, Chicano and Native American Studies Center to present their newest and free exhibit East Side Dreams: The Untold Story of East San José. The exhibit, open now through September, synthesizes stories both remembered and forgotten through images, artifacts and organizations.

Honored for Preserving State and Local History in Kansas City
Kansas City Public Library
Congratulations to Kansas City Public Library for earning the American Association for State and Local History’s Award of Excellence, the nation's top award. The award recognizes the library’s multifaceted 2021 Kansas City Black History project — a 44-page publication highlighting Black trailblazers, barrier breakers and history makers.

Encouraging Summer Learning and Storytelling in Chicago
Chicago Public Library
Chicago Public Library launched “City of Stories” with Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot — an all-ages and citywide approach to summer programming! The programming will be both online and in-person, focusing on education, engagement and safety for children, teens and adults. Participating youth will tell stories of their communities through written and spoken word, art-making and digital media production.

Debuting a New Makerspace in Mississauga
Mississauga Public Library
Mississauga Library’s Malton Branch recently debuted their new makerspace, making it one of four makerspaces in Mississauga Library branches. Patrons now have the resources and tools to input lines of codes, wire circuits, code with robots and more! Whether you are a digital filmmaker, a handy-crafts person or a coder, the makerspace has the tools you need to succeed.

CAMPAIGN FOR GRADE-LEVEL READING CONFERENCE SESSION

Register for CGLR Salutes Our Public Library Session
July 18 | 3 p.m. ET
The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (CGLR) is hosting its annual virtual conference, "GLR Week: Bright Spots and Silver Linings," July 18-22, 2022. On Monday, July 18 at 3 p.m. ET, GLR Week will be launched with a special virtual reception honoring public library partners across the country.
This session will acknowledge public library leadership for important initiatives including Summer Learning, Lunch at the Library, Book Rich Environments, Digital Equity, Literacy in Laundromats and Remake Learning. A panel of library leaders will join in a conversation, moderated by Susan Hildreth, former director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, to discuss the attributes of public libraries’ contributions toward advancing early school success from both historical and contemporary perspectives in an ever-changing information and resource-challenged environment.

1000 Books Before 4 Years Old!

URBAN LIBRARIANSHIP CONFERENCE JULY 14
|
|
The second Library 2.022 mini-conference: "Urban Librarianship: Embracing Challenges and Opportunities through Innovation, Leadership, and Best Practices," will be held online (and for free) on Thursday, July 14, 2022. This event is hosted by Library 2.0 and co-founded by The School of Information at San José State University, and this year features organizational help from Michael Lambert, City Librarian for the City and County of San Francisco.
