APRIL 2026

HAPPY EARTH MONTH, LONG BEACH!

Our favorite time of year is here: Earth Month! A time to celebrate our planet and reinforce the small habits that make a big impact.

Here are a few easy ways to build earth-friendly habits into your everyday life:

Reduce: Cut down on waste by repairing broken items, donating what you no longer need, and making the most of what you already have before buying new.

Reuse: When dining out or shopping, bring reusable items like cups, utensils, bags, or containers to help reduce single-use waste. You can also find reuse-friendly businesses in Long Beach on our website, linked here.

Rot: Properly dispose of food scraps and yard trimmings to reduce emissions that contribute to climate change. Use your green cart or try backyard composting or vermicomposting.

Recycle Right: Help conserve resources and protect workers by recycling properly. Make sure items are clean, empty, and dry, and check recycling guidelines to ensure they belong in the cart.

LONG BEACH FIXIT CLINICS ARE BACK!

Let’s work together to repair, reuse and reduce waste while building a more sustainable Long Beach! The City is once again hosting Long Beach Fixit Clinics at no cost, where you can work alongside volunteer Fixit Coaches to understand how your broken item functions and how it might be fixed.

THANK YOU FOR USING YOUR GREEN CART!

You're amazing, Long Beach!

Your efforts to separate food scraps and yard trimmings make a difference.

Together, we’ve kept 15,364 tons of organic materials out of landfills over the past year! Instead of emitting greenhouse gases that fuel climate change, that waste has been recycled into nutrient-rich compost.

Do you want to learn more about the residential organics (green cart) program? Learn more about your green cart on our website.
