JANUARY 2025

HOLIDAY TREECYCLING

About 200 tons of holiday trees are recycled into landscaping mulch by the City each year instead of being sent to landfills! An added benefit of the recycling service is the reduction of potential fire hazards and obstructions in the public right-of-way with illegally dumped trees.

Drop-off Collection Hours:

Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm

Saturday - Sunday, 9 am - 2 pm

NEW YEAR, NEW LOW-WASTE GOALS

New Years Resolutions

The new year is an excellent time to refresh your goals and set intentions for new habits to establish.

This year, try to work on establishing at least one low-waste habit:

  1. Repair broken items: By repairing broken items instead of replacing them, you learn a useful skill and help conserve resources in the manufacturing, transport, and disposal of goods. Attend our next community Fix It Clinic to learn from your community! Details for the next event are coming soon.
  2. Bring your own: Reducing waste through the refusal of single-use items is an impactful habit to establish! This year, try bringing your own cup when grabbing a drink to-go, bring a container to take leftovers, and bringing grocery and produce bags when shopping. Visit LB Reuses interactive map for a list of BYO (bring your own)-friendly businesses.
  3. Store produce for longer freshness: Food waste is one of the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Storing vegetables properly helps reduce waste, saves money, and reduces trips to the grocery store. View our produce storage guide to get started!
  4. Learn to compost at home: Did you know you can compost your food scraps and yard debris at home? Check out our free resources on composting at home or consider attending a future Compost and Recycling Ambassador course. Visit our website for more information.
