WHAT GOES IN THE ORGANICS (GREEN) CART?

🚛 Got your green cart in June? We’ve got you covered!🌿🍎

Know what goes in—and what stays out—to make the most of your organics cart.

Accepted items include food scraps such as: 

  • Meat, eggs, bones, and shells
  • Coffee grounds
  • Bread and pasta
  • Cheese
  • Expired or spoiled food without packaging
  • Vegetables and fruits
  • Food-soiled paper (napkins, paper towels, pizza boxes)


And yard trimmings such as:

  • Plant trimmings
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves, flowers, twigs, and branches

Please DO NOT place the following items in your green cart:


  • Food packaging
  • Produce stickers and ties
  • Products labeled compostable or biodegradable
  • Palm fronds, cacti, and succulents
  • Pet litter and waste


These items must be placed in your trash cart.

  • Electronics 
  • Bicycles
  • Jewelry 
  • Toys 
  • Clothes 
  • Small appliances 
  • Anything else small enough to carry into the event 


Items not allowed: 

  • Smart TVs 
  • Cellphones 
  • Electronic screens of any type 
  • Large appliances

It's #PlasticFreeJuly! Did you know most to-go items, such as plastic utensils, coffee cups, and foodware containers, are NOT recyclable in your recycling cart and end up in the landfill?

Make a difference in reducing waste by prioritizing reuse with these quick tips:


  • Bring your cup to purchase coffee to-go
  • Bring a reusable container to pack leftovers
  • Refuse single-use utensils and bring your own

FREE SHRED EVENT FOR LONG BEACH RESIDENTS

Cleaning out the garage? Bring up to 3 boxes of your confidential documents that need to be shredded to a Shred Event!

*Event may end early. The mobile shredding truck is on site until the truck is full.

INDEPENDENCE DAY SERVICE REMINDER

In observance of Independence Day on July 4th, 2025, many City of Long Beach facilities will be closed, and some services will be impacted.


🚛 ♻️ Refuse/Recycling 

Refuse and recycling will be collected as scheduled.


🧹💨Street Sweeping

There will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Friday, July 4th. Street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on Monday, July 7th.


🚗 Parking Enforcement

Read your parking meter: Citywide parking violations, including parking meters, will be enforced on Friday, July 4th, unless the meter states “Exempt on Holidays.” The days and hours of enforcement are displayed on the meters.


📞The Customer Call Center will be closed on Friday, July 4th.

Contact CCLB to schedule a free e-waste pickup by calling 562-577-2555 or 562-639-1446.


*CCLB accepts e-waste ONLY and does NOT accept used oil, tires, or other household hazardous waste.
