October is Bring Your Own (BYO) Month! Bring your reusable items to participating businesses and special events to earn stamps. Each stamp gives you a chance to win a sustainable prize!

Visit the 4th Street Farmers Market with your reusable bags. This farmers market has no plastic disposable bags – a win for reuse!

Stamp Card and Prizes

  1. Pick up a stamp card at any participating business or special event, or download it here.
  2. Collect stamps each time you bring a reusable to a participating business or attend a special event.
  3. At the end of the month, submit your stamp card for a chance to win a prize.

  • 2 tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific
  • Stainless steel bento box
  • Reusable produce bags
  • Lotion in a refillable container

ORGANICS (GREEN) CART UPDATES & INFORMATION

Organics (Green) Carts Are Coming to Thursday & Friday City-Serviced Residences! Green carts will be delivered between September 22 and October 8. Service begins October 9 or 10, depending on your regular collection day.

What goes in my green cart?


  • Meat, eggs, bones, and shells
  • Coffee grounds
  • Bread and pasta
  • Cheese
  • Expired or spoiled food without packaging
  • Vegetables and fruits
  • Food-soiled paper
  • Plant trimmings
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves, flowers, twigs, and branches


What does NOT go in my green cart?

  • Products labeled compostable or biodegradable
  • Food packaging
  • Palm fronds, cacti, or succulents
  • Logs or tree stumps
  • Treated wood
  • Recyclables
  • Trash, Oil
  • Household hazardous waste (HHW) and e-waste
  • Bulky or oversized items and tires


Quick tips: To keep your cart clean, line the bottom of your cart with cardboard or yard trimmings, freeze your food scraps, or wrap your food scraps in used paper!

LB FIXIT CLINIC AT SPORTS BASEMENT

Attempt to repair your broken item at our next LB Fixit Clinic! Work with volunteer fixit coaches to learn how to repair your item, or volunteer your time and/or skills to support fellow community members.

  • Bicycles
  • Jewelry 
  • Toys 
  • Clothes 
  • Small appliances 
  • Electronics (no phones or laptops)

Please help keep toxic chemicals out of our neighborhoods and environment! Long Beach residents have access to the disposal of hazardous waste at no cost.
