LB77 Conceal Carry without Permit

(Often referred to as Constitutional Carry)

What is LB77?

LB77 is to "Provide for carrying of concealed handguns without a permit, change provisions relating to concealed weapons, and prohibit certain regulation of weapons by cities, villages, and counties".

By clicking on Statement of Intent you can read the one page summary describing the bill. Click on introduced to see the full bill as introduced to the legislature.

What other states have Constitutional Carry laws?

According to the NRA there are 25 states that have versions of Constitutional Carry laws. Their map highlights those states with Georgia being the most recent.

Does LB77 uphold 2nd amendment rights?

The Second Amendment was ratified on December 15, 1791, as one of the first ten amendments to the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights. It is clearly about the right of individuals to own and carry guns. Law-abiding citizen should not have to ask permission, by being forced to buy a permit, for that right. LB77 removes this burden.

How Can I help?

Not sure what to say?

Listed below are thought starters. Build your story around one or two of then. Quantity is not as import as a short heart felt personal story.

Here are three strong arguments for Constitutional Carry

Bill of Rights:

  • LB77 will strengthen our 2nd Amendment Rights of the US Constitution
  • A law-abiding citizen should not have to ask permission or pay for a permit for a clearly enumerated Constitutional right like the freedom to bear arms. When passed, LB77 will allow the permit-less carry of a concealed weapon.

Public Safety:

  • Several documented studies show firearms are used in self-defense many more times than used to take lives.
  • It's widely understood that cities and states with the most restrictive gun laws also have the highest rate of gun crimes.
  • An armed society is a polite society as criminals never know which citizens are armed - it adds an element of respect for other people that they normally don't have.

Privacy and Retribution:

  • A concealed carry permit system managed by the State, County, or City governments is a database of gun owners. This list could include citizens with active permits, inactive permits, or permits that were denied. The idea of the government keeping a list of citizens exercising a constitutional right is deeply concerning and frankly Un-American.
  • Gun owner databases or lists could be seized, leaked, or leveraged to punish gun owners.
  • There is a noticeable push for gun control by making gun ownership more difficult for law-abiding citizens and it some cases forcing law abiding citizens to turn in firearms.
