As of this fall, there are 632 new students enrolled in Lyman Briggs College. 416 of these students came in with AP/IB/Transfer credits. 22.3% of our students are also members of the Honors College, which is a great accomplishment here at MSU. In fact, 19% of the Honors College’s incoming class are LBC students. Our college is also proud to share that 14.6% of our class are first-generation students, who are creating new opportunities for themselves and their families.
As for demographics, 384 students are from Detroit Metropolitan areas. Following this, we have 22 students from Genesee County, 21 from Kent County, and 11 from Kalamazoo County. We also have 47 out of state students, which is 7 more than last year. In addition to this, 65% of the class is female, enabling new opportunities for women in the science field.

This summer, the European Union launched the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which standardizes data protection law across all 28 EU countries and imposes strict new rules on controlling and processing personally identifiable information.
As a part of the initial GDPR discussion, Lyman Briggs alumna Kristin (Merritt) Eilenberg spoke with EU parliament members as well as key stakeholders from the academic community and the pharmaceutical and technology industries. She employed her expertise in the field to identify additional stakeholders, coordinate discussions, and contribute her perspectives on the topic.

Throughout the evening you can enjoy several delicious appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages (A cash bar will be available to attendees 21+) The style of this event will be networking and fun among fellow students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Our guest speaker for this event will be Dr. Ryan Sweeder. His TED Talk style topic is titled: Food for Thought. With Thanksgiving right around the corner we ask attendees to please bring in one canned good to be donated to a local food drive.
This is great opportunity to network and gain some valuable insight.
We hope to see you there!

This year for MSU’s annual Day of Giving, Lyman Briggs College is raising funds for the Lyman Briggs College Book Scholarship. This scholarship will be offered to first-year students who have limited access to STEM disciplines to purchase books and class materials during their freshman year. On this Day of Giving we are proposing the designation of five, $500, one-time book scholarships to go to the most deserving students. We in Lyman Briggs College believe that without providing this support, our community is missing out on an opportunity to provide more accessibility to students who might otherwise find extra challenges in pursuing a STEM education. If LBC could offer additional education support through this scholarship in addition to offering the Briggs experience, we could become more competitive and be the difference between these students choosing another university or even another program within MSU, and ensure their success in our college.
Watch your email and follow LBC on social media on November 27th for your chance to get involved! Visit
givingday.msu.edu for more information.
