Each summer solstice, Laguna Beach remembers one of its fiercest creative voices—photographer, environmentalist, and co-founder of BC Space Gallery, Mark Chamberlain.
This year, the Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center (LBCAC)—which carries forward the spirit and mission of Chamberlain’s beloved BC Space—invites the community to a heartfelt annual Solstice Celebration in his honor.
This event commemorates Mark’s enduring contributions to art, activism, and the preservation of Laguna Canyon.
Mark loved the term “Artivism”—a fusion of art and activism—which found its fullest expression in the legendary Laguna Canyon Project and the monumental installation The Tell. His work galvanized thousands, stopped unchecked development, and helped preserve the wild beauty of Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
Join us as we celebrate his vision and legacy with:
- Live performances by Jason Feddy and Patrick Ohslund
- A poetic tribute from the late John Gardiner, via archival video
- Reflections on Mark’s life and impact, presented by friends and collaborators
- A gathering of community spirit, rooted in the artistic and environmental values Mark championed
This solstice, we don’t just mark the longest day of the year—we honor a man whose vision helped ensure Laguna’s light would never dim.
Let us gather, remember, and carry his legacy forward.
