Manufacturing Day Block Party was a Success!

Thanks for making AMMC’s Manufacturing Day a success! AMMC staff and volunteers opened the AMMC and Concept Forge to the community on Oct 6th to allow everyone a chance to see our capabilities. We were joined by industry partners from Thunder Beast Arms, Nortrak, and HIVIZ Shooting Systems to introduce our visitors to a few of the businesses in Southeastern Wyoming. Food trucks from: Ranch Eats, G Licious BBQ and Graffiti Cuisine we on-hand to serve up some great food. Over a three hour period, we had approximately 300 visitors make their way through the facility. All of the Manufacturing Day items given away were made in house in the Concept Forge. We are always proud to show the variety of items we can produce in the Forge and are always happy to give tours of the facility!

One of the prizes given away during the Manufacturing Day event was a set of corn hole boards with the design determined by the winner. After much discussion by the husband and wife, they elected to have their boards wrapped with the Houses of Hogwarts.  Wrap corn hole boards? Yep, we can do that!

We want to thank our sponsors, Manufacturing Works and Alliance Brew Gear for their generous contributions to making this event possible. These two sponsors donated a total of $1,300 towards food vouchers!

Staff Spotlight

Adjunct Instructor Chase Lesher has had over 14 years of experience prior to joining Laramie County Community College’s (LCCC) Advanced Manufacturing and Material Center (AMMC). He grew up in small town, Thedford, Nebraska, before earning his associate’s degree in machine tool technology from Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Chase has worked in a variety of jobs for a medical company as a Tool & Die Maker and Mold Maker, to currently running and owning his own company in Cheyenne. He found out about the center from a LCCC welding instructor, which made Chase want to help out and so he agreed to help teach the first CNC bootcamp. Liking to not only teach, but help in all aspects of the center’s machining technology of manual lathes and mills, CNC mills, lathes, and grinder; Chase enjoys being at the AMMC and with all of its new technology and equipment. He’s passionate about machining, specifically research and development. His advice for those who want to learn manufacturing is, “Don’t hesitate! Manufacturing is a fun and rewarding career and then it can make for a high paying future, especially with the low initial cost of the degree.” See how the AMMC and one of its machining bootcamps can be of service to you by calling 307.432.1687.

CNC Operator Bootcamp #2 Update

Our second, nine-week CNC Operator Bootcamp started on September 11th and will run until November 9th. Our goal is for continuous improvement in our training and in this case, we added three weeks of manual machine training to the bootcamp. This introduction to manual machining gives the students an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the machining process before moving on to the CNC equipment. In the photo above, students are working in pairs as they are making machinists hammers on the manual lathes.

Concept Forge

The Concept Forge will begin offering community, weekend classes beginning November 4th. The first few classes will give opportunities for you to make your own fall decorations. Please click on the QR code for more information!
