How do you feel about reorganizing the Learning Center & Meeting Room? (One response, please.)
I trust the council to make this decision.
I prefer to keep the rooms as they are now.
I agree with the proposed changes.

Dear Foothills Servants and Friends,

Join us in worship this week as we begin a preaching series focused on the readings from Hebrews, beginning with a statement at the core of many deep theological debates: "What is faith?" There are many questions, but even more answers when it comes to our understanding of Faith and how it leads us today. Come, join the conversation.

Faithfully Yours,

Pastor Naomi

—COMMUNITY SERVICE—

August Community Services Outreach

In August we will focus on the Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest (LSS-SW) Aging And Disabilities Service. This vital service provided by LSS-SW reaches people in Pima, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties. Services include, but are not limited to, non-medical home care, including housekeeping, habilitation, meals on wheels, and grocery shopping services. The goal of this program is to allow people to remain independent in their homes. Consider becoming a part of this community by volunteering a few minutes of your time. Please contact Jessica O'Donnell at [email protected] for more information.

You can also make either a monetary or in-kind donation. Wishlist items include male and female adult diapers of all sizes, personal hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. Give a monetary donation by using the Community Services envelopes on the display table. Make checks payable to "Lutheran Church of the Foothills" and mark your donation "Lutheran Social Services" or "Community Service." You may place your monetary donation in the offering basket or mail it to the church. Sunday Dollars (loose dollar bills placed in the offering basket) are automatically designated for the month's Community Service Emphasis. ~ Sylvia Strauss-Kolb

—LIFE TOGETHER—

Members from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will gather in Columbus, Ohio, August 8th - 12th, for the 2022 ELCA Churchwide Assembly.

The ELCA Churchwide Assembly, the primary decision-making body of the church, is a process of communal spiritual discernment. Over the course of the assembly, voting members:

  • hear reports and review the work of churchwide officers, leaders and units;
  • receive and consider proposals from synod assemblies;
  • elect officers, board members and other leaders as specified by the constitution or bylaws;
  • establish ELCA churchwide policy;
  • worship together;
  • adopt a budget; and
  • conduct other business related to the ELCA churchwide organization.

You can follow the business of the gathering by watching the livestream from the link and schedule provided. (Click here for ELCA Churchwide Assembly 2022 schedule and livestream link.) We are a congregationally-based denomination. What happens at Churchwide, and the decisions that are made, have wide sweeping consequences for our individual churches and should be on the radar of every ELCA member. I invite you to join me in watching next week as you are able. In the weeks following Churchwide there will be time for conversation around the decisions and progress made at the gathering. Please take time this week to pray for all who are traveling to attend as staff, voting members, vendors, and visitors--especially our Council President Laura Hollengreen who will attend as one of 10 voting members for the Grand Canyon Synod. May God be with them in their discernment and leadership and may our Church be called forward to continue to grow in faith and in service to God and the world. ~ Pastor Naomi

You are appreciated!

I would like to take this moment to thank you for your generous donation to the Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank (SAAFB). It is your support that has helped families in need keep their beloved pets fed. Your kindness and generosity has touched our hearts. ~ Donna DeConcini, Director of SAAFB

Thank you so much for donating so generously to The Haven. Your giving has helped provide effective, affordable substance abuse recovery for women in a family-inclusive environment. ~ Amy Graves, Director of The Haven

Help people in Kentucky

Did you know that, after a major disaster, Lutheran Disaster Response helps people in the United States in addition to those in other countries? Currently, in addition to their work in Ukraine/Eastern Europe and other places in the world, Lutheran Disaster Response is working with the Indiana-Kentucky Synod and local communities to focus on long-term needs after the flooding in eastern Kentucky. They anticipate that the response will include rebuilding homes, replacing lost household items and providing emotional and spiritual care to survivors. (This is in addition to their ongoing response to the December 2021 tornadoes in eastern Kentucky.) You can help the people in Kentucky by donating to Lutheran Disaster Response (mark your donation "US Flooding") using the forms on the Activities Counter. On those forms you'll also find instructions for giving online.

These denominational publications are provided by this congregation at no charge to you.

Name Badges. Please get in the habit of wearing your name badge to all events at church (receptions, coffee hours, classes) so newcomers can get to know your names. If you would like a name badge, sign up on clipboard that is on the kiosk in the lobby.

Sunday Dollars (loose dollar bills put into the offering basket) are designated for our monthly Community Service Emphasis. If you want to contribute to the Sunday Dollars by mail, please do not send cash in the mail. You may add a dollar or two to your check and then note “Two dollars for Sunday Dollars.” Our counters will take it from there. Thank you!

Our offering is a key part of our worship experience as we offer “ourselves, our time and our possessions.” Gifts may be received during worship, by mail, on our website, through your on-line banking, or electronically in other ways. We also encourage you to remember other non-profits that you regularly support. Your generosity means a great deal. Thank you!
