—IN OUR PRAYERS—

We pray for . . . Kent Power, Jr.,  Marlene Pushkar, Sue Thompson, Joan Nolan, Melba Acheson (friend of Donna and Ken Cousino), Pete Reed, and all affected by the fighting in Ukraine. Also, we lift up the family of Don Bellomy who passed away last week. Names will remain on the prayer list for three weeks unless otherwise notified.

—COMMUNITY SERVICE—

School Supply Drive: Our Community Service emphasis for July is the San Juan Bautista Lutheran Church school supply drive. Over 45% of the community at San Juan Bautista is of school age and so many of the families in their community face many challenges, not the least of which is purchasing school supplies. Specific needs include, but are not limited to:

  • backpacks,
  • wide-ruled paper,
  • pencils, pens, markers, crayons, and
  • monetary donations.

You can help by donating any of the above during this month. A box is available by the display table in the lobby to place items you donate.

You can also help by giving a monetary donation by using the Community Service envelopes on the display table. Make checks payable to "Lutheran Church of the Foothills" and mark your donation "San Juan Bautista" or "Community Service." You may place your monetary donation in the Sunday offering basket or mail it to the church. Sunday Dollars (loose dollar bills placed in the offering basket) are automatically designated for the month's Community Service Emphasis. ~ Sylvia Strauss-Kolb.

On Friday, July 15, we will be delivering dinner to the men staying at the Primavera Men's Shelter. To participate by providing needed items or delivering the dinner, sign up on the clipboard on the Activities Counter in the lobby. Bring your items to church by 1:00p Friday, July 15. We--and the folks at Primavera Men's Shelter--appreciate your participation in this monthly ministry.~ Community Service Team.

Lutheran Campus Ministry Painting and Work Party: Lutheran Campus Ministry is asking for volunteers to help recondition their new location, the former Youth House at Our Savior's Lutheran Church located 1 block north of Speedway on Campbell. Some of the needs are painting the hallway, entryway, study room, and fireplace. Help is also needed with replacing blinds, removing carpet, assembling bookshelves, and hanging coat hooks and mug racks.

The work dates are Saturday, July 16 and August 13 at 9:00a to 1:00p. If you are willing to help, please contact Lonnie Jenkins at (614) 570-5949 or sign up in the Lobby. Thank you and God's blessings! ~ Lonnie Jenkins.

You are invited to the 2022 Faith Community Breakfast: Reunited in Faith and Action! Join Habitat for Humanity Tucson for a breakfast on Thursday, July 14 from 8:00a - 9:30a at their offices on 3501 N. Mountain Avenue in Tucson. Faith communities are a central part of the ongoing efforts to build and repair homes in Southern Arizona. By joining hands with families in need in Tucson, we can help build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. The Faith Community Breakfast is a great way to learn about the work that Habitat Tucson is doing in our local community and how you can partner with them. To find out more or to RSVP, please contact Ann Vargas at (520) 326-1217 or [email protected]

Youth across the ELCA are participating in ELCA World Hunger's Global Farm Challenge, a special fundraising campaign to put an end to hunger by providing farming families around the world with education, seeds, tools, training, and more. Thanks to generous donors, all gifts to this challenge will be matched--dollar for dollar--until they reach $525,000. For more information, reach out to the team at [email protected].

On-going community service ministries:

—LIFE TOGETHER—

New Additions to the Pray-Ground! There are a few new toys that have been added to the Pray-Ground for our youngest worshippers. As they may have a propensity to want to explore toys with their mouths, we have also added a container of disinfecting wipes to the area and simply ask that families wipe down any toys that have been explored before returning them to their bins at the end of worship.

Lap desks with art supplies and paper are also available for children who may want to be seated in the pews and chairs rather than in the Pray-Ground. At the end of worship, please return the lap desks with the art supplies neatly stored inside so that they can be refilled with paper for next Sunday.

Peruse the Activities Counter in our lobby to learn of ways you can get to know your fellow-Servants better by joining in Servant opportunities, both within our congregation and out in the world. If you would enjoy serving within the congregation, consider these opportunities (contact the person named or Pastor Naomi for more information):

  • Join the Worship Preparation team to help set up for worship. ~ Beth Daum.
  • Use your computer at home or in the office to help track our use of music copyright licenses. ~ Leslie Johnson.
  • Use your computer skills as an Announcement Slideshow Creator. ~ Stewart McDonald.
  • Participate in leading worship in a variety of ways as part of the Sunday Worship Assistants team. ~ Barbara Burtnett.
  • Get some additional exercise by helping with trash and recycling. ~ Leslie Johnson.
  • Get to know more people by serving as host/ess for Fellowship Time one Sunday.

"Gather" magazine for July and August is now available on the counter near the west entrance into the Sanctuary. Each issue contains articles as well as bible studies.

"Christ in Our Home" daily devotional booklets for July, August and September are now available. Pick up your copy (in regular or large print) from the counter near the east entrance into the Sanctuary. Next to the devotional booklets you'll also find the June/July edition of "Living Lutheran" magazine. These denominational publications are provided by this congregation at no charge to you.

It is so good to see your face--all of your face. As we emerge from behind our face-masks, please get in the habit of wearing your name badge to all events at church (receptions, coffee hours, classes) so newcomers can get to know your names. If you would like a name badge, sign up on clipboard that is on the kiosk in the lobby.

Sunday Dollars (loose dollar bills put into the offering basket) are designated for our monthly Community Service Emphasis. If you want to contribute to the Sunday Dollars by mail, please do not send cash in the mail. You may add a dollar or two to your check and then note “Two dollars for Sunday Dollars.” Our counters will take it from there. Thank you!

Our offering is a key part of our worship experience as we offer “ourselves, our time and our possessions.” Gifts may be received during worship, by mail, on our website, through your on-line banking, or electronically in other ways. We also encourage you to remember other non-profits that you regularly support. Your generosity means a great deal.   Thank you!

In-person

Protocols for Worship. Please be sure the ushers check your name on the attendance roster before you enter. Face masks are not required in most of the sanctuary. Designated seating with a separate entrance through the east door is provided for those who desire extra precaution, and face masks will be required to be worn in that area throughout the service. Wherever you sit, you are encouraged to be gracious to your neighbors and keep comfortable distancing between households. Please continue to care for the well-being of our whole community and join us online if you are feeling unwell.

Children in Worship. We are happy to invite children into worship. If you are bringing children with you to church, please be sure that their names, as well as yours, are recorded on our sign-in sheet. There is a Pray-Ground in the front of the sanctuary (northeast corner) for our youngest worshipers and their adults, where anyone can color, read, or play quietly during the service. There are also rocking chairs for soothing our smallest worshippers. A children's message will be offered during worship and Pastor Naomi will meet anyone interested in gathering during that time at the Pray-Ground.

Live-streaming and Recording. Please be advised, when you enter a Lutheran Church of the Foothills worship service you will be entering an area where photography, video and audio recording may occur. As such, there is no way to guarantee that your image will not appear or that your voice will not be heard.
