Dear Foothills Servants and Friends,

We have all felt that deep churn in our gut. The one that comes when someone challenges our deep held beliefs, or rejects the things we feel are important in life. Perhaps you have had that feeling even in church when you felt uncomfortable with the direction of the sermon. Being challenged is uncomfortable, and that is exactly what Jesus did to his followers in this Sunday's gospel. Join us as we talk about the societal expectations and norms that Jesus was pushing against when calling his disciples to commit to an itinerant life.

Faithfully yours,

Pastor Naomi

SAAFB small.jpg

Calling all animal lovers! Our Community Service emphasis for June is Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank (SAAFB). So many members of our community, particularly low-income, unemployed, elderly and homeless individuals, face many challenges, not the least of which is how to feed their pets. We are fortunate to have a wonderful organization in Tucson, fully staffed by volunteers, whose primary goal is to alleviate that challenge. Specific needs include, but are not limited to:

  • Dry and wet dog food
  • Dry and wet cat food
  • Gently used animal supplies
  • Monetary donations

You can help by donating any of the above during this month. A box is available by the display table in the lobby to place items you donate. Please take a flyer from the display table as a reminder and to learn more about SAAFB.

You can also help by giving a monetary donation by using the Community Service envelopes on the display table. Make checks payable to "Lutheran Church of the Foothills" and mark your donation "SAAFB" or "Community Service." You may place your monetary donation in the Sunday offering basket or mail it to the church. Sunday Dollars (loose dollar bills placed in the offering basket) are automatically designated for the month's Community Service Emphasis. ~ Sylvia Strauss-Kolb.

Lutheran Campus Ministry Painting and Work Party: Lutheran Campus Ministry is asking for volunteers to help recondition their new location, the former Youth House at Our Savior's Lutheran Church located 1 block south of Speedway on Campbell. Some of the needs are painting the hallway, entryway, study room, and fireplace. Help is also needed with replacing blinds, removing carpet, assembling bookshelves, and hanging coat hooks and mug racks.

The work dates are Saturday, July 16 and August 13 at 9:00a to 1:00p. If you are willing to help, please contact Lonnie Jenkins at (614) 570-5949 or sign up in the Lobby. Thank you and God's blessings! ~ Lonnie Jenkins.

On Friday, July 15, we will be delivering dinner to the men staying at the Primavera Men's Shelter. To participate by providing needed items or delivering the dinner, sign up on the clipboard on the Activities Counter in the lobby. Bring your items to church by 1:00p Friday, July 15. We--and the folks at Primavera Men's Shelter--appreciate your participation in this monthly ministry.~ Community Service Team.

Next to the devotional booklets you'll also find the June/July edition of "Living Lutheran" magazine. These denominational publications are provided by this congregation at no charge to you.

It is so good to see your face--all of your face. As we emerge from behind our face-masks, please get in the habit of wearing your name badge to all events at church (receptions, coffee hours, classes) so newcomers can get to know your names. If you would like a name badge, sign up on clipboard that is on the kiosk in the lobby.

Sunday Dollars (loose dollar bills put into the offering basket) are designated for our monthly Community Service Emphasis. If you want to contribute to the Sunday Dollars by mail, please do not send cash in the mail. You may add a dollar or two to your check and then note “Two dollars for Sunday Dollars.” Our counters will take it from there. Thank you!

Our offering is a key part of our worship experience as we offer “ourselves, our time and our possessions.” Gifts may be received during worship, by mail, on our website, through your on-line banking, or electronically in other ways. We also encourage you to remember other non-profits that you regularly support. Your generosity means a great deal.   Thank you!

Wherever you sit, you are encouraged to be gracious to your neighbors and keep comfortable distancing between households.
