Recap: National Night Out

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station recently hosted its annual National Night Out event, bringing together local law enforcement, community partners and residents for an evening dedicated to unity and public safety awareness.

The festivities included interactive agency displays, local community partners and a popular dunk tank that raised funds for Special Olympics Southern California.

The City extends its sincere gratitude to all participating first responders, emergency service providers and community members who came out to strengthen neighborhood bonds.

Save the Date: LCF's Annual Community Preparedness Day

The City of LCF invites community members to the Annual Community Preparedness Day on Thursday, September 10, at 6 p.m., at Olberz Park (One Civic Center Drive). This year's theme is "Rain and Flooding Awareness."

This family-friendly event is dedicated to enhancing local emergency readiness and disaster resilience. Attendees can interact with local first responders, learn practical storm and flood safety measures and explore interactive safety booths.

Annual Brush Clearance Inspection Update

The City of La Cañada Flintridge successfully passed its annual municipal brush clearance inspection on June 30.

The Public Works team worked diligently to clear hazardous vegetation and maintain defensible space around City properties, helping to protect local neighborhoods against wildfire risks.

The City encourages residents to take an active role in brush clearance and maintaining their property to help safeguard our community.

Annual City Council Reorganization

The City Council recently held its annual reorganization meeting to designate leadership roles for the new legislative term.

City Council Updates:

• Quemars Ahmed was officially sworn into office and seated on the City Council.
• Jeanne Kim Hobson was selected to serve as Mayor.
• Stephanie Fossan was selected to serve as Mayor Pro Tem.
• Kim Bowman concluded his term as Mayor, and Michael T. Davitt concluded his tenure on the City Council.

The five-member governing body guides municipal policy decisions and oversees the implementation of the Fiscal Year 2025–27 Strategic Plan.

Regular meetings occur on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Celebrating Council Member Davitt's Retirement

The City recently celebrated Council Member Michael T. Davitt's retirement following 15 years of dedicated service on the City Council.

Throughout his tenure, Council Member Davitt served on numerous subcommittees, acted as a liaison to local organizations and completed four terms as Mayor.

Welcoming Dr. Debra Cradduck as LCUSD Superintendent

The City of La Cañada Flintridge warmly welcomes Dr. Debra Cradduck, who officially assumed the role of La Cañada Unified School District (LCUSD) Superintendent on August 1.

The City looks forward to seeing the district continue to thrive and achieve excellence under her guidance.

Construction Update: St. Francis HAWK Installation

Construction is currently underway on a new HAWK pedestrian crossing signal along Foothill Boulevard, located in front of St. Francis High School.

To ensure student safety and avoid disrupting school drop-off and pick-up traffic, daily work is scheduled during off-peak hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Project completion is estimated for September 2026. Please drive cautiously and remain attentive to crew members when traveling through the work zone.

In celebration of National Intern Day on July 30, the City of LCF extends sincere appreciation to the dedicated interns who support local operations.

Matthew Odom serves as the Youth Council Liaison, assisting with citywide communications and special project implementation. Eric Mehrabians provides valuable assistance with local planning initiatives, land use and zoning services.

The City thanks Matthew and Eric for their hard work, fresh perspectives and continued dedication to serving the LCF community.

Sustainability and Resilience Commission

The Sustainability and Resilience Commission is a dedicated local body responsible for evaluating LCF's environmental efforts, driving the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) and making key recommendations to the City Council.

The Commission monitors progress using the Climate Action Tracker and recommends adjustments to meet emissions goals. They also promote policies on air quality, waste management, water conservation and habitat protection.

The current Commission includes Francis Pollara, Ahee Han, Julie Kane-Ritsch and Lauren Oakes. Antonio Gardea, Assistant Director of Community Development, serves as the staff liaison to the Sustainability and Resilience Commission and can be reached at 818-790-8881 for inquiries.

Music in the Park

The City’s annual Music in the Park summer concert series is in full swing, but winding down soon! Residents can enjoy live music on Sundays through August 30.

Most recently, the series has featured incredible performances from Platinum Beat, Hot August Night and FM Radio. Don't miss the last three performances: enjoy '60s and '70s music from The Laurel Canyon Band on August 16, a women of country tribute from The Pistol Blonde on August 23 and rockstar covers from Boombox Heroes on August 30.

To ensure everyone enjoys the concert and has a great view, please keep these tips in mind:

• Share the space: Avoid saving empty seats for long periods.
• Furry friends: Make sure pets stay on a leash at all times. 
• Shade etiquette: Set up umbrellas at the back so they don't block the stage for others.

Applications are Open for LCF's Hometown Heroes Program

Applications are now open for LCF's fourth annual Hometown Heroes Program. This initiative honors local veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Recognition banners featuring each honoree’s name, rank, photo and branch of service will be displayed on City light posts beginning in November. Funded entirely by the City, participation in the program is free for all recognized service members.

Nominations must be submitted by Friday, October 2.

Open House: Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge

The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge (CCLCF) will host a free, all-ages Open House on Sunday, August 16, from 1 to 5 p.m., at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive.

Attendees can explore diverse program offerings, including youth sports, senior activities, ceramics and performing arts, while enjoying live class demonstrations, performances, raffles and refreshments. Guests who sign up for a class during the event will receive a 10% discount on day-of registration.

National Back to School Month

In observance of National Back to School Month in August, the City of LCF encourages all drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to practice increased caution on local roadways as students return to the classroom.

School traffic safety tips:

• Observe speed limits in school zones and residential neighborhoods.
• Eliminate distractions and keep an eye out for children walking, biking or waiting for buses.
• Yield to pedestrians and do not park within 20 feet of crosswalk approaches.

E-Bike safety tips:

• Always wear a helmet.
• Use lights and reflectors when riding at night or in low-visibility conditions.
• Follow traffic rules and ride predictably to stay safe around cars and pedestrians.

Safe Strolls: LCF Pet Tips

Maintaining safe and welcoming public parks, sidewalks and trails requires cooperation from all pet owners in LCF.

To ensure a positive experience for all visitors, community members are asked to observe key safety guidelines when bringing pets into shared public areas:

• Dogs must remain on a leash at all times when visiting City parks, public rights-of-way and multi-use trails.
• Pet owners are required to pick up after their animals and dispose of waste in designated trash cans.
• Keeping pets close prevents unwanted interactions with fellow residents and reduces potential wildlife conflicts.

The City continues to advance infrastructure projects and strategic planning efforts to improve public safety, mobility and community facilities. Notably, enhancements to the Mayor’s Discovery Park Improvements Project are now complete. To boost pedestrian safety and roadway visibility citywide, red curb restrictions are being designated at the approaches to marked and unmarked crosswalks.
