Thanksgiving Day Run



The City and Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge invite you to attend the 31st Annual Thanksgiving Day Run & Food Drive on Thursday, November 28, at Olberz Park.

Please note that Foothill Boulevard, from Loma Vista Dr. to Gould Ave., will be closed to traffic for the entire duration of the run. This change prioritizes the safety of all involved parties.

South Coast AQMD Lawn & Garden Incentive Program

The South Coast AQMD has expanded its Residential Electric Lawn & Garden Equipment Rebate Program to include not only lawn mowers but ALSO leaf blowers, trimmers and chainsaws!

Residents in LCF can replace up to three gas-powered tools with zero-emission, battery-electric models and get up to $250 in rebates per unit.

One City One Book

The La Cañada Flintridge One City One Book Committee its excited to announce their book of the year: The Women, a powerful coming-of-age story set again the backdrop of a nation at war, by renowned author Kristin Hannah! The bestseller is a tale of resilience, dreams and the trials of a generation facing unprecedented challenges. 

Join us on January 26, 2025, at 3 p.m., when we’ll gather at the LCF Library (4545 N. Oakwood) for a lively discussion and Q&A with Hannah. Grab a copy of the book from your favorite local bookstore and start reading. This promises to be a memorable community event.

November 19 City Council Meeting

The next LCF regular City Council meeting is at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19. During this meeting, City Council will discuss an agenda item on Southern California Edison and the Municipal Code governing Parks and Recreation.

Meet Assistant Planner Kurtis Fabela!

As Assistant Planner in the Community Development Department, Kurtis assists with various planning entitlement projects.

Kurtis began working for the City in 2023 as an intern for the Planning Division, and was promoted to Assistant Planner in June of 2024.

The Administrative Services Department is responsible for a myriad of municipal functions, including:

• Public safety (law enforcement/fire/animal control/emergency preparedness).
• Human services (personnel recruitments, benefits administration, labor negotiations and employee discipline).
• Parks and recreation.
• Legislation.
• Risk management (insurance and general liability claims processing).
• Information technology.
• Telecommunications, communications and public outreach.
• Special events/activities.
• Trees in public right of way maintenance and facility management.

Hometown Heroes Program

ActiveLCF

Planning a holiday gathering? ActiveLCF is an interactive recreation software that gives users access to a simplified reservation system for parks, athletics fields and facilities, all without having to visit City Hall. Accounts have already been created for existing users to access their current permits.

With ActiveLCF, residents can:

• View facility availability.
• Learn about reservation requirements, fees and insurance.
• Submit a reservation request.
• Make payments.

Fall Clean-Up Week

LCF's Fall Clean-Up week is almost here! From November 18-22, 2024, on your regular pick-up day, your waste hauler will collect bulky items at the curb free of charge.

Bulky items include chairs, sofas, mattresses, carpets and rugs (tied in rolls), appliances, electronic equipment, clothing and tires. Box, bundle or bag any loose items so that they can be easily handled. Please consider donating items that are still usable to a local thrift store or charity.

Please note that hazardous or toxic items, like paints, cleaning chemicals and detergents will not be collected, but call 1-888-CLEANLA or visit 888CleanLA.com for more information on Household Hazardous Waste event.

Request a Vacation Patrol Check

Planning a holiday getaway? In partnership with the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station, the City of LCF offers a Vacation Patrol Check for residents.

Pet Leash Reminder

The City of La Cañada Flintridge would like to remind residents and their furry friends that all dogs are required to stay on a leash while in public, including at City parks and on trails.

Leashes are required to be no longer than six feet and dogs must remain in the full control of their owner.

E-bike Safety: What is a Class 2 E-Bike?

A Class 2 e-bike features a throttle, allowing you to ride without pedaling, which sets it apart from a Class 1 e-bike. The motor provides assistance up to 20 mph, after which it automatically stops. The motor is capped at 750 watts, similar to Class 1 e-bikes.

Rules & regulations for Class 1 e-bikes in California:

• No age restriction to ride a Class 2 e-bike.
• Riders under 18 are required to wear a helmet.
• No driver’s license or registration is needed.

While Class 2 e-bikes offer more control with the throttle feature, always stay within legal boundaries and ride safely. Remember to check the label on your bike’s frame to verify its classification and top speed.

Citywide Pedestrian Crossing Upgrade (HSIPSL-5417(025); CIP 31-2211): The City Council awarded a construction contract on September 17, 2024, for the removal and replacement of curb and gutter; striping and signage; construction of new bulb-outs and installation of new overhead Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) at the existing crosswalk of Foothill Boulevard and Union Street, plus the replacement of pedestrian signal heads and pedestrian push buttons at four (4) signalized intersections on Foothill Boulevard and one (1) on Verdugo Boulevard. Construction is tentatively scheduled to start in February 2025 and be completed in May 2025, pending the procurement and delivery of the traffic signal equipment which is considered long lead items and will take approximately 4-5 months. 

Foothill Boulevard Link Bike Path Block Wall (CIP 31-2406): Construction of the project was substantially completed on September 12, 2024. The project consisted of protecting about 600 feet of the westerly portion of the bike path that is immediately below an existing steep slope with a Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) block wall. The block wall will protect the bike path from falling rocks, debris and possible mud flows.
