Meet Administrative Clerk Lynda-Jo Hernandez!

Lynda-Jo joined the LCF team in 2014 as a Recreation Specialist for the City Skate Park. She was then promoted to part-time Administrative Clerk in 2018, where she worked the front counter at City Hall.

Currently, she is a full-time Administrative Clerk for the Administration Department with a strong focus on Public Records Requests.

E-bike Safety: What is a Class 3 E-bike?

A Class 3 e-bike is designed for higher speeds and enhanced performance. There are significant differences in speed and age regulations for riding a class 3 e-bike. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Provides pedal assist up to 28 mph. This is higher than the 20 mph limit of class 1 or 2.
  • Motor power must be limited to 750 watts. This is the same as class 1 and 2.
  • Must have functional pedals.
  • No throttle is allowed; assistance is only provided while pedaling.

Rules & regulations for Class 3 e-bikes in California:

  • Riders must be 16 or older. Many parents may not understand the e-bike they purchased for their child is a class 3 and illegal to operate if under 16 years old.
  • Helmets are required for all riders.
  • Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed on bike paths unless specifically permitted by local ordinances. No driver’s license, registration or insurance is required.

Class 3 e-bikes offer faster speeds and are great for commuters, but require adherence to specific regulations to ensure safety. Check the bike frame for the classification label to confirm it's a Class 3 e-bike.

For more information regarding e-bike classifications, see the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Information Bulletin from California State Parks. To explore more E-Bike resources, visit CityofLCF.org/Public-Safety/E-Bike-Resources/.
