City Launches Wildfire Prevention Project

The City of LCF is launching a targeted grazing project to help reduce wildfire risk in our community. Thanks to funding from CAL FIRE's Wildfire Prevention Grant, the City will manage vegetation across 58.7 acres of City-owned land in the Gould Canyon area using controlled goat and sheep grazing.

This effort is part of a broader wildfire mitigation strategy in partnership with the Lost Angeles County Fire Department and supports ongoing efforts to protect LCF's Wildland Urban Interface.

For more information and to learn more, visit LCF.ca.gov/Wildfire-Prevention

*Funding for this project provided by CAL FIRE’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program. The Wildfire Prevention Project is part of California Climate Investments (CAClimateInvestments.ca.gov), a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment – particularly in disadvantaged communities.

Back to School Safety

As the school year begins, families across La Cañada Flintridge are encouraged to support a safe and smooth transition by reviewing and following school drop-off and pick-up procedures.

To help maintain a safe environment for all, drivers should:

  • Always stay in their vehicles during carline
  • Avoid blocking intersections or driveways
  • Never make illegal U-turns near school zones

Pedestrian safety is equally important. Students and guardians should use designated walkways, avoid crossing in the middle of the street and follow all crossing guard instructions.

For more information, please contact your child’s school directly for specific instructions regarding drop-off and pick-up routes.

Bear Safety in LCF

Knowing what to do if you encounter a black bear can make all the difference. In a presentation focused on living in close proximity to black bears, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife provided these essential safety tips:

  • Avoid cornering the animal
  • Back away slowly and speak in a low voice
  • Don't turn your back to the animal or run; give them room to escape
  • If the bear approaches you, stand your ground, make yourself look larger and yell
  • Fight back if attacked; don't play dead

Earthquake Fault Notice

The City of La Cañada Flintridge has sent notices to property owners affected by the California Geological Survey’s preliminary maps of revised Earthquake Fault Zones.

These maps identify areas near active faults where future development may require special studies or disclosures. The maps are part of a 90-day public review period ending September 4, 2025.
