E-Bike Safety Tips
La Cañada Flintridge has experienced a rise in incidents involving minors operating e-motorcycles and e-bikes unsafely on public roads. Community reports suggest some riders may be engaging in risky behaviors that can lead to serious consequences for themselves and others.
A few key safety reminders for e-bike use:
- Follow the law: All riders must obey traffic laws. Operating any motorized vehicle recklessly or without proper licensing and safety equipment can result in fines, citations or legal consequences.
- Avoid risky behavior: Unsafe riding — such as speeding, ignoring traffic signals or evading attention from law enforcement — greatly increases the risk of collisions and injury. In 2021, nearly 1 in 5 vehicle pursuits in California ended in a crash.
- Parental responsibility matters: The safest approach is for parents to ensure their children are riding age-appropriate vehicles and using them legally and responsibly. Supervising and educating young riders goes a long way in promoting safe habits.
Please talk with your children about the importance of making safe choices when using e-bikes and e-motorcycles. Responsible riding protects not only the rider, but also everyone else on the road.
