Principal Ivan Corley

September 20, 2024

To our Amazing Tiger Students and Families,

We are excited to announce our first Parent Advisory Meeting on Monday September 23, at 6:00pm. We have our meetings in the commons, cafeteria area of our school. All parents and guardians are invited to attend. This is a great opportunity to connect with principal Corley, connect with other parents/guardians, share ideas, and support our school community.

Homecoming Week is just around the corner, starting September 30 through October 4. We also have our annual fall feeder pattern event at Sacajawea Middle School on October 4 from 5:00-6:30pm. We encourage everyone to participate in the festivities and show your school spirit.

Our Tigers continue to work hard in their classes every day, and we are proud of their dedication. Our teachers remain committed to the success of every student, every day ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive. We also encourage you to have conversation with your student and “pump them up” to get involved with a club, activity, or sport at Lewis and Clark. Participation can enhance their school experience and help them build lasting relationships.

Truly appreciate your continued support and please contact me if you have any questions at ivanc@spokaneschools.org.

Thank you,

Mr. Ivan Corley

Please Complete the Engage IRL Survey

Starting in 2024, every student in Spokane Public Schools will complete their "IRL Plan," a brief survey where every student will express their extracurricular interests as we launch our Engage In Real Life initiative with Launch NW.

Engaging in face-to-face activities helps students develop essential life skills while exploring their passions through clubs, sports, the arts and more.

Complete Your IRL Plan <- SURVEY

Please Complete the CEP Survey

All SPS students receive no-cost breakfast and lunch at school through our participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and the passage of a bill in the Washington Legislature in 2022.

To continue our participation in this program, we are asking all families to complete a short pre-application survey to indicate eligibility. Families will be prompted to give SPS permission to share eligibility status with community partners so qualifying students can access additional benefits and resources, like fee

waivers for tests and sports, Summer EBT, community discounts, and more.

Students who qualify can access additional benefits such as:

  1. Fee waivers for AP exams (each AP exam is $99 without a waiver), & Saturday SAT or ACT exams
  2. ASB card fee waivers
  3. Free GSL student season pass
  4. Free textbooks for Running Start Students.

Based on your responses, you may be prompted to complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefit Application. If you need support in completing the application, please refer to Community Eligibility Provision

AP/College Board Accounts

If you are enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP) class, you will need to create or access your existing College Board account (this is only for students that have a class with "AP" in the course title). Your account will give you access to AP Classroom resources and access for ordering your AP exams (we will order exams later in September). This account is not connected to your school accounts, so you will need to save the login and password (LC teachers do not have access to your login info, so if you forgot your login info, you need to recover it on the AP website). Go to the College Board website to either make sure you can access your account from last year or to create a new one if you are taking your first AP class.

BigFuture Scholarships & College Planning

BigFuture is a FREE resource from the College Board. The site can help with scholarship searches (23,000 in their database), FAFSA, college searches, college prep, college apps, and career exploration. Completing tasks on the site also make you eligible for BigFuture scholarships.

AP College Credit Search

If you are taking an AP class and wondering what credit the exam will give you with different colleges, check out the FREE AP College Credit Search tool. Select the AP class and the tool will let you know what score you need to earn (on a 1-5 point scale) for any college you are researching

Information

Student & Parent/Visitor Parking

Parent/Visitor Parking: LC has designated visitor parking in the freeway lot across from the Commons or you can park at any of the metered spots across the street. For after-hours events, you can park for free in any of the parking lots under the freeway. The doors to the Commons building are handicap accessible.

Student Drop-off/Pick-Up: Buses pick up students all around the perimeter of the school. Please do NOT park in these locations before school/after school. We recommend arriving for pick up after the buses have left at 2:40pm.

Student Parking: LC students can park in the two freeway lots (in front of the Field House and in front of the church to the east - Lots 3 & 4). Be sure to display your student parking permit to avoid getting a ticket in the student lots.

The lots under the freeway directly in front of the Main Building and the Commons (Lots 1 & 2) and the Field House parking garage are ONLY for LC staff and are monitored and ticketed for cars without staff permits.

Schedule Change Deadline

Schedule changes are now complete to change or drop without a notation on your official transcript.

Dropping a class between weeks 3 and 6 will result in an “W” (withdrawn) posted to the transcript.

Dropping a class after week 6 will result in an “F” posted to the transcript.

Communication and Problem-Solving Process

We highly value our partnership with families and are committed to working together to address any challenges that may arise. If a student is experiencing difficulties with a teacher or another staff member, please follow our structured problem-solving process to help in building self-advocacy for our students.

We find that most issues can be resolved if students follow step 1.

  • Step 1: The student initiates a conversation with the teacher or staff member to resolve the issue directly.
  • Step 2: If the issue remains unresolved, the student and parents should have a discussion with the teacher or staff member.
  • Step 3: If further support is needed, the student should schedule an appointment to meet with a counselor.
  • Step 4: If the issue persists, the student and parent should jointly meet with the counselor.
  • Step 5: The student, parent, and counselor will then arrange a meeting with the teacher or staff member involved.
  • Step 6: If the problem continues, the student should set an appointment to speak with an administrator.
  • Step 7: As a final step, the student and parent will meet with an administrator to seek resolution.
