The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940

MAY 5-7, 12-14

Sponsored by:

Lincoln Community Playhouse will present The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, a comedy by John Bishop, on May 5-7 and 12-14. Tickets are $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for students and may be reserved at lincolnplayhouse.com or by calling the box office at 402-489-7529 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday-Friday.

The creative team responsible for a recent Broadway flop (in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious “Stage Door Slasher") assemble for a backer’s audition of their new show at the Westchester estate of a wealthy “angel.” As the composer, lyricist, actors, and director prepare their performance, and a blizzard cuts off any possible retreat, bodies start to drop in plain sight, knives spring out of nowhere, masked figures drag their victims behind swiveling bookcases, and accusing fingers point in all directions. The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 is a wildly comic romp that is a loving satire on show biz and old Hollywood melodramas.

The cast includes Francoise Traxler, Regina Hinkley, Mark Geist, Katie Hoppe, Brad Hoffman, Dani Gibson, Jack Tyson, JoanAnn Blomstedt, Michael Booton, Karen Freimund Wills, and Lane Gibson.

Morrie Enders directs with Caroline Nowak as lighting designer, Hannah Hansen as costume designer, Julie Enersen as props coordinator, and Lauren Spilinek as tech director.

Season sponsors are Russ’s Market, 10/11 Cares, Lincoln Journal Star, and KFOR. Corporate sponsor is Farmers Mutual of Nebraska.

Achievements

Congratulations to past Playhouse board member, Steve Glenn, for receiving the Rotary District 5650 Distinguished Humanitarian Award on April 1.

This rare honor was given to Steve for his 2022 creation of Operation Safe Harbor, which provided temporary housing for refugees arriving in Poland as they fled the war in Ukraine. These refugees were predominantly women and children. Steve helped raise over $1 million and more than 1,200 Ukranians were impacted by Operation Safe Harbor. Steve is now guiding efforts to support the refugees as they integrate more fully into Poland while they await cessation of the war in their country.

Bravo, Steve!

Congratulations to Erik Betts for achieving Eagle Scout status!

Erik participated in Penguin Project for five years in roles such as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast JR, Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid JR, and Troy Bolton in High School Musical JR.

Erik was inspired to dedicate his Eagle Scout project to repainting the Playhouse green room and building a wheelchair-accessible table for Penguin Project's use during productions. Erik continues to volunteer at the Playhouse and we are proud of his accomplishment!

Obituaries

Lincoln Community Playhouse celebrates the life of Maria Teresa (Sebrina) Nazaire.

Sebrina was born June 27, 1973 and passed away on March 7, 2023.

Sebrina played the role of Old Woman in our production of Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale in 2022. She was a delight to have at the Playhouse.

Sebrina was outgoing, fun, creative, and caring. She had a strong faith and participated in (and sometimes led) her church choirs.

She had an energy about her that one could NOT ignore. She "set the tone" whenever she walked into a room. It was important for her to be unique from everyone else, and she was! She lived life with passion - in everything she did - whether doing crafts with her daughter or going for a walk in nature.

Lincoln Community Playhouse celebrates the life of Marilyn Peterson.

Marilyn was a performer in six of our Radio Active Players and toured with our Playhouse Greasers. She passed away March 29, 2023.

A lifelong educator, teaching thousands of students, Marilyn touched countless lives in 12 schools in Nebraska during her career. Marilyn was an educator for 44 years, beginning her journey in a rural school in Lancaster County and serving as an elementary principal in Lincoln Public Schools for her last nine years before retirement in 1996.

Marilyn was an active member of St. John The Apostle Catholic Church where she sang in the Praise Choir for 40 plus years. Music played a big part in her life. She also sang with the Lancaster County Chorus, Eastmont Towers Chorus, Women's Christian Chorus and Greasers. She loved to garden, bake, play golf and to crochet.
