Reminder: Bring Cartoon Band-aids to Convention as Part of LCUL's Community Service Project
We wanted to remind credit unions about the community service project taking place at convention this week. From superheroes to princesses, if you've been around kids between the ages of 1 and 10, you know they are serious about their band aid selection. That's why Children's Hospital is starting a band aid donation drive.

Children's Hospital uses thousands upon thousands of band aids each year so we encourage you to donate a few boxes near the CULAC booth. Giving back is what we do and there's no better time than our statewide convention when we all come together.

LCUL's New 'Membership in Action' Highlights 2nd Qtr Impact, CUs in the Community
We live in a moment of information overload, which increases the risk of something essential being lost. LCUL's value proposition should never be one of them. Our quarterly installments of Membership in Action will provide a snapshot of the activities, initiatives and services provided by your League along with stories on Louisiana credit unions in the community.

We are excited to promote the 2nd quarter success of our partnership through two channels. Take a look at the video and then download the print version, which showcases the good work of Louisiana credit unions.

Former CSE FCU Supervisory Committee Chair Passes Away
Ronald "Ron" Paul Kemerly, former Supervisory Committee Chairman of CSE FCU, passed away on June 26 after a long battle with cancer. Kemerly had a long and successful career in city government, most of which was with the City of Lake Charles as City Planner, and then as Director of Finance. He served under four Lake Charles mayors before retiring in 2007.

In 2010, he was appointed to serve on the Supervisory Committee at CSE FCU and became chairman in 2013.  He served in that capacity until health problems forced him to resign in February of 2018.

Kemerly's leadership, work ethic and discipline had an extraordinary impact on everyone who knew him.  He enjoyed making and collecting maps and reading history, and he had an inherited love of music.  He loved to travel and took many "back roads USA" adventures.  His dry sense of humor and his unique personality will be greatly missed.

Meritius CU CEO Interviewed on Dave Ramsey Radio Show
After facilitating 34 classes through 9 weeks of financial literacy lessons and 500 graduates, Connie Roy, President/CEO of Meritus CU was recently interviewed by Dave Ramsey, in conjunction with Financial Peace University Coordinator Week, July 23 - 27.

Roy was able to share with the popular radio show's audience how she and members of her management team have achieved this
tremendous success.

Beginning with the first class in 2012, Connie realized the best way to help credit union members in need was to equip her staff with the necessary tools to offer sound financial guidance. She began by offering Financial Peace University to her team and then began including credit union members who expressed interest in learning how to manage their personal finances. Things soon began to take off from there.

These days, Connie coordinates FPU twice a week, and she's opened it up to members of the larger community too. "They learn so much from one another," she says. "The dynamics are magical. They start as strangers, and by the second or third class, you start hearing, 'Why didn't you fix the refrigerator? You know you can't afford a new one.' They're teaching one another and holding each other accountable."

Campus Federal Supports LDA Foundation Fishing Rodeo
The Campus Federal team enjoyed some fun in the sun for a good cause at the Louisiana Dental Association Foundation Fishing Rodeo, which was held at Sand Dollar Marina in Grand Isle on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Proceeds from the fishing rodeo support the Louisiana Mission of Mercy (LaMOM) program, along with dental education, research, and community outreach.
