And the 2018 International Credit Union Day® Theme Is...
Today, the World Council of Credit Unions announced the 2018 International Credit Union (ICU) Day® theme, "Find Your Platinum Lining", celebrating the spirit of the global credit union movement for 70 years.

This year's ICU Day theme combines the traditional gift of platinum for 70th anniversaries, a play on the saying "every cloud has a silver lining" and a celebration of the platinum-lined differences and impact credit union and other financial cooperatives have made and continue to make for their members and communities.

ICU Day® is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October and will take place this year on October 18.

Through ICU Day festivities worldwide, credit unions raise awareness through outreach and volunteering in the community, organizing contests, charitable fundraisers, and open houses.

Official ICU Day posters and logos are available for download and print. The  Credit Union National Association (CUNA)  offers a variety of promotional resources to help with ICU Day celebrations. Credit unions everywhere are encouraged to share photos, events, experiences and other festivity ideas on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn using #ICUDay.
Silent Auction, Band-Aid Drive Success Proves Louisiana Credit Unions Practice What They Preach: Check Out the Results!
YPN Silent Auction

Thanks to the generosity of Louisiana credit unions, the Young Professionals Network (YPN) successfully raised $4,792 during this year's silent auction at the League's Annual Meeting & Convention. An exciting component to convention, the silent auction included more than 60 items to bid on with proceeds split equally between the YPN and the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation.

"We would like to thank the credit unions, chapters, and industry supporters that helped make this possible. Likewise, the convention participants that stepped up to place bids helped us raise even more than last year," said Michelle Jinks, Access of Louisiana FCU CEO and YPN Committee Chair. "The donation will help support and enhance education opportunities, including our latest initiative, the Credit Union Development Scholarship Program."

Children's Hospital Band-Aid Drive

Anyone who has been around kids under the age of 12 can attest to how important the right band-aid. LCUL asked attendees to donate boxes of character band-aids to benefit Children's Hospital during our convention August 1-4. Thanks to the generosity of our credit unions, LCUL will be delivering 249 boxes of band-aids to Children's Hospital, surpassing last year's totals.

The outreach was started after Rene Guilbeau, hospital Director of Child Life and Creative Therapies, was looking for small ways to bring joy into the patient experience.  "Kids have very few opportunities to make their own choices while they are patients, and something as small as picking out your own band-aid can mean a lot", said Guilbeau.
