Registration Open for Young Professionals Workshop; Apply to Reverse Crash!
Register now for our 9th Annual Young Professionals Workshop being held in Lafayette April 21 & 22. 
 
NEW! This year we are taking our workshop from a Friday & Saturday to a Tuesday & Wednesday. We have pushed the start time back on Tuesday so that attendees can travel in that day if they choose and Wednesday will end by lunch.

Our keynote session will kick off with dynamic speaker, Raven Solomon, as she talks about the '20 Rules of Effective Multi-Generational Leadership.' Attendees will interact with Lacey Weaver, LCUL's SVP of Member Engagement, to learn more about what the League has to offer in her session League 101. 

On  Tuesday, April 21, join us for a networking reception at Rock n' Bowl Lafayette from 7 - 9:30 pm. This is open to anyone that would like to attend for $35 (cost is included in registration fee for full workshop attendee). Come enjoy a night of networking, bowling, and food! 

Are the seasoned credit union advocates ready for a unique and rejuvenating experience? We are bringing back our Reverse Crasher program with a special panel discussion about their journey in the credit union movement and any advice for our young professionals. 

And the winner is... Do you know a Young Professional that should be recognized for their hard work and contribution to the movement? Nominate them for YP of the Year! Deadline for nominations is March 12.

Louisiana GAC Now Open for Registration
Louisiana credit union advocates can now register for the Louisiana Credit Union League's 2020 State Governmental Affairs Conference, slated for April 14-15 at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center. 
 
State GAC features networking opportunities, legislative and government updates, and both formal and informal meetings with lawmakers from throughout Louisiana. Our annual Legislative Seafood Social at the Capitol Park Museum will take place the evening of the April 14 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

CFPB Requesting Survey Response on TRID Rule; Due March 6
The CFPB is assessing the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosures (TRID) Rule.  As part of its assessment, the CFPB has issued industry surveys for loan originators, loan officers, and closing companies. The surveys can be found here

Participation is voluntary, however, the surveys will assist the CFPB in understanding the effects of the rule and the responses from community-based lenders will provide the CFPB with a better picture of how those entities were affected by the TRID Rule. The deadline to submit a survey response is March 6, 2020.
CUNA Announces Theme for 2020 Youth Month
National Credit Union Youth Month serves to encourage kids to develop healthy saving habits by making savings fun and exciting. This campaign is your credit union's opportunity to engage with young members and show them that your credit union is there to help them throughout their financial journey.

This whimsical theme makes it fun for kids to save for their future and helps them find joy in setting aside a little money for everyday spending and helping others. Hear from CUNA on the 2020 Credit Union Advocacy Agenda
CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle and Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan will detail the credit union advocacy agenda for 2020 during a webinar on Tuesday, February 18 at 1:00 pm central. They will also  help ensure CUNA GAC attendees are well equipped to speak with lawmakers about the credit union difference during the event. 

Topics to be covered:
  • Review the 2020 credit union advocacy agenda
  • Get a breakdown of each important issue
  • Learn tips and tricks for effectively communicating with lawmakers

Get the Help You Need to Fulfill ACET Assessment for Cybersecurity Compliance
Many of our credit unions are actively planning on how to fulfill their ACET assessment for cybersecurity compliance since the NCUA released their supervisory priorities two weeks ago. Our CSS provider, TraceSecurity, has developed services to not only deliver the initial maturity assessment, but also a framework to evaluate the identified critical controls in the years between ACET assessments.

CSE Announces Board Leadership Changes for 2020
Leo Blackmer
At a meeting held on November 19, 2019 CSE FCU's Board of Directors elected Leo Blackmer as Board Chairman. Blackmer replaces Kenneth L. Gardner, Jr. who has served as Board Chairman for the last 25 years.

Blackmer holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from McNeese State University and has been a member of CSE for almost 29 years. He began his service as a volunteer by appointment to the CSE Supervisory  Committee in 1998. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2006. 

Kenneth L. Gardner Jr.
During Gardner's 25 years as Board Chairman CSE grew from one location to four, assets increased from $96.5 million with 13,200 Members in 1994 to $336.2 million with 31,900 Members. Mr. Gardner has also served as Chairman of the League's Legislative Committee since 2013. He is also a past-president of the Lake Charles Chapter. Because of his devotion and support of the credit union movement, he was inducted into the Louisiana Credit Union Hall of Fame in 2016. He now serves with distinction on the LCUL Board of Directors.

CSE's President & CEO Clark Yelverton said, "CSE is thankful for Ken's many years of dedicated service and leadership, along with his many contributions to the credit union movement. His handprints will be on CSE's history forever."  Ken will continue to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. A formal celebration of Ken's service will be held at a later date.
Campus Federal Sponsors Pre-Dental 101 at LSU School of Dentistry
Campus Federal was a sponsor of the recent annual workshop, Pre-Dental 101: A Brush Up on Dentistry, at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry.

The Pre-Dental 101 program was created in 2011 to help students increase their knowledge of the dental fields, deepen their expectations of the demands of the curriculum, and better understand requirements for an effective application to their chosen program.

LSUSD faculty members and students hosted the one-day program, where nearly 300 pre-dental and pre-dental hygiene students from LSU were presented with various topics in dentistry, including the application procedure, how to carve chalk, dental waxing, and digital technology. Students had the opportunity to discuss specialties, ask questions of a panel of dental school officers and learn more about career paths in dental fields.

Pelican State CU Hosts Credit Score Workshop in Rapides Parish
On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, Pelican State Credit Union hosted a free workshop for the Rapides Parish community at the Main Street Community Center in Pineville, Louisiana. 

Thirty-three people attended the event as Pelican Nationally Certified Credit Counselor Rhoda Hundley gave a presentation about the ins and outs of credit reports and scores. Team members of Pelican's Alexandria and Pineville branches were also there to assist members.

Guests in attendance enjoyed a free jambalaya dinner, drinks, and dessert.  Following the presentation, the credit union also gave away two Pelican prize packs with $50 gift cards!
Barksdale FCU Promotes Freda Webb to VP of Consumer Lending
Barksdale FCU is pleased to announce the promotion of Freda Webb to Vice President of Consumer Lending. Mrs. Webb has managed the consumer lending department at BFCU since 2003 with extensive prior banking experience. She has made many major contributions toward the success of the credit union.They are delighted to have her in this lead role.
