Stuck at the Office? No Worries! Our 2019 Silent Auction is Going Digital!
The Young Professionals Network (YPN) will once again host an incredible Silent Auction with all proceeds being evenly split between the Louisiana Foundation and the YPN for scholarships.

This year, the auction includes an exciting new online bidding component. Everyone (even those unable to attend convention) will have the opportunity to place bids on items, which will also be on display for anyone that would like a closer look. Were you out bid on an item last year? No need to worry as you will receive a text message if someone out bids you. Let the bidding wars begin!

Bidding will begin bright and early on Thursday, August 1. Good luck!

Reminder: Bring s Box of Cartoon Band-aids to Convention as Part of LCUL's Community Service Project
We want to remind credit unions about the community service project taking place at convention this week. From superheroes to princesses, if you've been around kids between the ages of 1 and 10, you know they are serious about their band aid selection. That's why we're holding our third annual band aid donation drive.

Children's Hospital uses thousands upon thousands of band aids each year so we encourage you to donate a few boxes at the CULAC booth during our convention. Giving back is what we do and there's no better time than our statewide convention when we all come together.
2019 International CU Day Theme Announced

The World Council of Credit Unions and CUNA have announced this year's International Credit Union Day theme: "Local Service. Global Reach." According to WOCCU, the theme is intended to capture the "focus and scope" of credit unions and further explain their mission on how each credit union serves a local community globally.

This year's ICU Day will be held Thursday, Oct. 17. The ultimate goal of the celebration is to raise awareness about the tremendous work credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. During ICU Day, credit unions around the world host fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteer initiatives, parades and more.

CMG: Why do Banks and Credit Unions Struggle to Increase Household Penetration?

James "Beaver" Foy Announces Retirement from Louisiana USA FCU
James "Beaver" Foy, Louisiana USA FCU's CEO and President, announced December 31, 2019 as his official retirement date.

Foy served in his current position for over 28 years, beginning his career at Louisiana USA as the Chief Financial Officer in 1988. He oversaw the credit union's operations and upper-level management processes.

During his tenure, Foy guided the credit union through a changing financial landscape and ensured it never strayed from its original mission of providing

members with high quality service. "Our mission has always been to concentrate on individuals. The credit union's commitment to being a nonprofit organization allows us to focus directly on our members. People always have to come first," says Foy.

Foy's departure stems from his desire to empower the younger staff members and provide them the experience necessary to uphold Louisiana USA's reputation. "Beaver took this organization and made it what it is today. With a great group of employees, he created a thriving credit union." says Angie Barnes, Louisiana employee.

"Beaver was a dedicated leader in steering Louisiana USA back to financial health while staying with the true meaning of a credit union, people helping people. He has always addressed situations with an analytical point of view while still encompassing his fun-loving attributes. His loyalty and compassion have shone through every time he put his employees' needs above his own," said Cindi Nohra, Louisiana USA employee.
