Three Data Points To Know From 2Q
  • Data Point 1: At second quarter, the credit union industry's 9.8% loan growth has led the portfolio to surpass $1 trillion for the first time.
  • Data Point 2: The credit union loan-to-share ratio at second quarter, 82.9%, is the industry's highest since year-end 2008. Credit unions are more loaned out and are looking for additional instruments to manage liquidity.
  • Data Point 3: The industry counts 115.5 million members at second quarter, as total memberships grew 4.4% year-over-year. This is the fifth consecutive quarter of accelerating annual member growth.

LCUL Submits Comment Letter to NCUA on Risk-Based Capital Proposal
NCUALCUL recently submitted a comment letter to NCUA providing feedback on the recently-issued proposal on risk-based capital. NCUA's proposed rule would delay the imposition of the 2015 rule for one year (to the year 2020), and would also raise the asset threshold for defining a complex credit union from $100 million to $500 million in total assets. NCUA also proposes to make changes to or eliminate several of the indicators of a complex credit union.
