LABOR DAY WEEKEND & THE IMPORTANCE OF ELECTING DEMS

As we head into this Labor Day weekend, we are reminded of the importance of our labor unions who protect our workers. To quote Google: “We honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the US.” During the height of the Industrial Revolution, the average American worked 12-hour days oftentimes seven days a week. Labor unions grew more prominent and began to organize strikes and rallies to protest the working conditions and this exploitation of American workers. You can thank our labor unions for improving the quality of life for many workers.

Many (if not all) of our local labor unions support our Democratic candidates and Democratic party because they understand we stand with the workers. Why don’t you do your part and help our Democratic candidates this Labor Day weekend by canvassing and/or calling our LD2 neighbors to help them with their elections and protect Democracy?

KATHY HOFFMAN

HELPING OUR LD2 CANDIDATES CORNER

In keeping with the Back-to-School theme of the August LD2 meeting, the LD2 candidates will be joined by Superintendent Kathy Hoffman this Labor Day weekend!

Have you been wanting to help our LD2 Candidates with canvassing, but were afraid to ask? The LD2 Candidate Campaign has created some fun opportunities to learn and help our candidates by being paired up with an experienced organizer. Each of the LD2 Organizers is available in the evening Monday to Friday from 4-7pm to work with you individually to erase any trepidation you may have. To sign-up, visit the mobilize link found below.

For those of you with the gift of gab and like to phone bank, there are several opportunities to help out even if you don’t live in AZ. Please contact our LD2 Campaign Organizer, Taylor Nelson, who will be able to plug you into the right opportunity where you can get involved; she can be reached at 515-822-4022 or [email protected].

Special highlight of upcoming events:

  • 09/03 – Canvass with special guest Nate Levinsky from 9:30am-noon, meet at Conocido Park, 15645 N 31st Drive, talk with persuadable voters in the Sunrise precinct

  • 09/05 – Canvass with special guest Superintendent Kathy Hoffman from 9:30am-noon, meet at Paseo Highlands Park, 3435 W Pinnacle Peak Rd, talk with persuadable voters

LD2's SINGLE SHOT POSTCARD HELP

We are excited to pick up our single shot postcards from the printer over the next couple of days and will be following up with individuals who expressed an interest in helping us out with this endeavor. Can you help us, too? It’s really simple work and will help us out immensely. It does require you to pickup the materials and drop them off at the same North Phoenix location, if you are able to help us out. We used these postcards in the former LD20 which we think helped get Representative Schwiebert elected. Perhaps you can arrange a postcard party with your Democratic neighbors to help us with this endeavor?

Please email us at [email protected] if you want to help.

LD2's NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL

Have you seen our new YouTube channel for LD2? Subscribe to it so that we can make more content.

YOUTUBE

We use it to review the “single shot” political strategy in very basic terms to win the State House for LD2. We explain to voters to “throw away” their second vote to help increase the chances of getting our candidate elected. We explained in more depth the strategy in last week’s edition of the newsletter. This time, visit our YouTube channel and tell your friends about it. It would be awesome to increase the number of subscribers so that we can add more content.

EDUCATION & FACEBOOK

Our LD2 PC Erica Connell made me aware of an opportunity for those of you already on Facebook. There is a group called: “Arizona Education Community” run by the AZ Republic with over 2000 members.

This public group might provide an additional source of info for those interested in the state of AZ’s Education system.

AFFORDABLE CONNECTIVITY PROGRAM

Our LD2 PC Ginger Lane who is also with the Communications Workers of America made us aware of the Affordable Connectivity Program to help connect families and households struggling to afford internet service. Please share this vital information. To find out more about the program and to determine eligibility, visit: https://www.fcc.gov/acp

PVUSD HYGIENE DRIVE

During the August LD meeting, Our LD2 PC Hara Dembowski made us aware of an important hygiene drive coordinated by the PVUSD to help out the Title I schools with this special need. You don’t even have to leave home to help support them.

YOUNG ORGANIZERS PROGRAM

As was briefly mentioned during this month’s LD meeting, MCDP is going to start an organizing training program for young volunteers, “MCDP Young Organizers Change Makers 2022”, beginning in September. No prior campaign experience required. Please forward the application to any student you know who may be interested in growing their skills related to canvassing, phone banking, and field organizing. This program will focus on improving people’s communication with voters to ensure those voters vote up and down the ballot

The application can be found HERE.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through Sept 20th. Questions? Contact [email protected]

NEW LD2 BUSINESS CARDS & NAME BADGES

You can now order LD2 business cards at $30/box of 100 cards & name badges at $15/badge. We are using J & R Printing (a Union Printer in Phoenix) for our needs. As was demonstrated during the July LD2 meeting, please visit this link to submit and pay for your order: http://azld2dems.org/order/

If you have any issues with ordering them, please contact Whit at [email protected]

STOP VOUCHER EXPANSION

Remember when Prop 305 was overwhelmingly rejected by the voters in 2018? Unfortunately, the AZ Legislature voted to effectively dismantle public education by passing HB2853 Universal ESA Voucher Expansion. We’ve proven in the past how those of us who believe in properly funding public education can mobilize and do what needs to be done. To that end, we must collect 118,823 valid signatures before September 24, 2022 to stop universal ESA voucher expansion from going into effect. This referendum will then go on the Nov 2024 ballot where AZ voters can reject it once and for all.

DONATE & WIN A GIFT CARD

If you’re reading this newsletter, you know the importance of voting in all elections and understand the process. However, not all of our LD2 neighbors do, so one of the uses of our funds is for the purpose of creating literature and mailers to help educate the voters of LD2 about the importance of elections – especially down ballot local races. Consider becoming a recurring donor to LD2 and you will be automatically entered to win a gift card for your recurring donation!

Anyone can donate - you don’t have to live in LD2.

How about $22 for LD2 in 2022?
