THIS WEEK'S MEETING AGENDA UPDATE

Dear LD2 North Phoenix and Friends,

I hope you're well and finding cool shade from this summer heat. I want to share some reflections from the first half of 2023 and provide an important update about this week's meeting.

Here are the five meaningful insights I've gained from the PC one-on-ones:

  1. During my interactions with each of you, I have witnessed the incredible power of your 'why' behind your commitment to political activism. The stories you've shared have moved me to tears, revealing how your individual efforts not only impact the present generation but also leave a lasting imprint for the generations to come.
  2. To the PCs among us, your activism stories are a true inspiration. I encourage you to embrace any opportunity that comes your way to share these experiences with others, as they will ignite passion and create meaningful change.
  3. One consistent theme from our conversations is the significance of local politics. We all deeply care about our neighbors, and every dialogue has revolved around finding ways to support and uplift others rather than focusing solely on ourselves.
  4. We're ahead. Let's stay ahead. With less than 16 months remaining until the election, we know who is running for State Senate in LD2, our very own Rep. Judy Schwiebert. There is a sigh of relief, but this also means we must win the State House seat.
  5. And finally, to me, there's nothing more important than trust. With that, and in full transparency, this role has undoubtedly been the most challenging I have ever undertaken. I am grateful for the opportunity to build a relationship with each of you. Together, I am confident that we will celebrate next November.

With this in mind, there is an important update about this week's meeting:

  • Firstly, Secretary Fontes will be traveling for elections training in Tucson on Wednesday. As they prefer an in-person appearance over Zoom, we will confirm the details of their participation shortly.

  • Secondly, I am pleased to announce that AZ Corporate Commission candidate Derek Farado will join our meeting, providing us with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with him.

  • Lastly, we will host an open discussion about the single and double-shot strategies. To facilitate this, we'll share relevant information and data, and we'll have the ADLCC representative present to address any questions that arise.

Related to the open discussion: As your Chair, and in full transparency, I don't know if I'm aware of the PC point-of-view (POV) on this important matter. While my perspective will be shaped by Rep. Schwiebert and Mary Fortney, I believe it's crucial for your voices to be heard and your perspectives to be shared openly.

Our success in next year's election hinges on our collective actions and good decisions. I eagerly anticipate the insightful discussion we'll have during the meeting.

Sincerely,

Meg

Meg Patel, Ed.D.

Chair, LD2 North Phoenix DEMs

THE HUALAPAI PEOPLE ARE UNDER THREAT

A Message from Chris Gehlker, Vice Chair of DEMs Give Back:

The Hualapai people’s religion and culture are under threat from lithium mining.

You'll be able to read about it here. This article refers to the mining company as “Hawkstone” and they are currently doing

business as “Arizona Lithium Limited”. Same folks.

Meanwhile, there are no public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations on the Hualapai reservation, and some EVs can’t make it from Flagstaff to Palm Springs and back on a charge.

It’s yet another case where Indigenous People bear a disproportionate share of the costs of a

new technology but receive little benefit.

Take Action: You'll be able to comment on this situation at an online meeting. Please register here.

We are having a pre-meeting to discuss strategy with Kevin Davidson from Hualapai on July 18th at 5:45.

Topic: Hualapai EV Charging Comments

Thank you,

Chris Gehlker, Vice Chair of DEMs Give Back

DONATE TO LD2 AND WIN A GIFT CARD!

If you’re reading this newsletter, you know the importance of voting in all elections and understand the process. However, not all of our LD2 neighbors do, so one of the uses of our funds is for the purpose of creating literature and mailers to help educate the voters of LD2 about the importance of elections – especially down ballot local races. Consider becoming a recurring donor to LD2 and you will be automatically entered to win a gift card for your recurring donation!

Anyone can donate - you don’t have to live in LD2.

How about $20.23 for LD2 in 2023?
