WW 1/21/26: Student Choreography and Show Assignments

Happy Wednesday! This week has been so fun as we started Student Choreography. You can read more about WHY we do this below, but let's just say it brings us and the students so much joy to explore creativity and teamwork. We love seeing what they create!

Speaking of seeing new creations...last week I had the honor (thank you to my mentor Misty Lown, founder of More Than Just Great Dancing) to join fellow studio owners in Chicago and get a sneak peek of Giordano Dance Chicago's 3 new world premieres. They are so talented, but what stuck out to us all the most was how much passion and joy they radiated as they performed for us in their studio space. They were so good, I plan to take some of the LDC staff down to Chicago in April to see their full show!

We hope everyone is staying warm out there this week! Don't worry, we'll keep the dancers nice and toasty dancing their hearts out at the studio.

IMPORTANT:

STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY (1/19-1/31)

One of our favorite times of year. The dancers are often asking to do certain moves or creating their own dances during water breaks and out in the lobby/locker rooms.
Now they get to work together in small groups on their own to create their own special dance.
Dancers age 2-3 & 4-5 will do this too, but with the guidance of their teachers! So fun to see what their favorite moves are :)
The teachers will be there to guide and help if needed, but ultimately the dancers are on their own for this project.
WHY do we do this? Because it's fun AND more importantly, they learn...
to work as a team
to voice their ideas and opinions with their peers
to explore their creativity
to test their knowledge on what they've learned so far
to keep things exciting during these cold, winter months

If your dancer does NOT have the correct dance shoes that they will need for recital, we suggest you get them now to make sure they have time to break them in and get used to dancing in them!

BRAVO to our LDC Performing Company!!

Sunday the team ROCKED it at the Milwaukee WAVE game. This is always a favorite event of ours and SO much fun for the kids. We are always so impressed how well Performing Company does with the various venues and audience sizes they perform for. They entertained the crowd and had a blast doing so. Way to go dancers!!!

LOOKING AHEAD:

COSTUME DISTRIBUTION (STARTING IN FEB.):

Costumes are coming in and we are getting them ready to be handed out to the excited dancers.
During these weeks, wear tighter fitting clothing (which you should be anyway for class!).
Classes will come together in the black studio and get your garment bag, hanger(s), tights and costume(s). We will try on the costumes and check that they fit ok and take a group photo.
Please note: any costumes that are a little too big or need a strap tightened my mom, Miss Jan, will be here in May to take care of those.
If a costume is too small...we will get that taken care of during costume distribution and get a new one ordered or swapped out.
Dancers will take their costume bag home after their FINAL dance day of the week.
Ex: Have class on Monday and Wednesday? You'll leave your bag in black on Monday and take it all home Wednesday!
Some costumes are not in yet and won't be until March/April...but no worries, they are coming! Thank you for your patience and we promise it will be worth the wait!

SPIRIT WEEK: (MON 2/9-SAT 2/14)

Wear RED, WHITE and/or PINK this week!
And be sure to fill out a paper heart during February and let us know what you love about yourself, about dance or life in general!
Let's cover the hallway walls with LOVE!!

TEAM SHOWCASE (SUNDAY 2/15 2:00pm)

Interested in joining one of our 3 teams next season? Love to watch dance? Then this is the show for you!
LDC's Sparkle Squad, Performing Company AND Competition Team will be performing at our annual team showcase.
This show is full of different styles, group dances, solos...so much talent and passion!
Tickets go on sale 2/2/26.
$15, plus tax each.
You DON'T want to miss this show!

REMINDERS:

INCLEMENT WEATHER

Tis the season!!! Some reminders about our inclement weather policy.

We will aim to make the call by NOON for evening classes.
We do not necessarily follow schools, as sometimes it's worse in the morning, sometimes worse in the evening.
If we do close, we will announce via: Email, Facebook & Instagram and TMJ4.
If we are open, but you don't feel safe driving...please stay home!
Safety is our number one concern for our dancers/families, staff and teenage drivers.
If we cancel or you choose to not attend, simply make up your missed class(es) at your convenience!

If you are new to us...we can't wait for your to experience the magic that is recital! You may think it's just one weekend in the spring, but there are quite a few elements and special moments throughout the year that make up this special core memory.

RECITAL WEBSITE IS LIVE: We have a dedicated recital website that will house all of the information you will need. We spread it out over the course of the season, so not all is released yet. But it will all be released as the time comes.

COSTUMES: They have started to arrive!! It takes us a bit of time to get them organized and ready to hand out (LOTS of behind the scenes steps and spreadsheets). But we will be working on that and handout begins in February!
