A NOTE FROM MISS KATE M:


We hope everyone had a great first week back to reality last week and are getting in their groove again. Always a struggle at the start of the year.


We were so excited to be back with the kids last week (and of course our awesome adult students and families such as yourself!).


Last Friday Miss Stacy, Miss Michelle and I attended an online training put on by the amazing coaches at More Than Just Great Dancing. We had 5 hours of classes, with 8 unique topics...it was a lot of information and inspiration and we are grateful for opportunities like this. One thing I truly believe in is investing in my team allowing them to grow in their roles and the training we attended will certainly help do that.


Next week is Student Choreography for the students! See below for more information but we love these 2 weeks as it's such a great chance to see our students get creative and push themselves out of their comfort zones.

If your dancer does NOT have the correct dance shoes that they will need for recital, we suggest you get them now to make sure they have time to break them in and get used to dancing in them!

DID YOU KNOW?? It's not too late to add another class? Is your dancer interested in trying another style? There's still a few weeks to do so before we close registration for the season. Just log into your parent portal to add another or ask us for help and we can get you all set!

FUN!

Last week (and this week) we had the absolute joy to have quite a few of our LDC alum come back to visit and take class!!


Having the studio be a forever home to our students is something that is SO important to us. We want anyone that graduates to always feel that they can come back, visit, take class and in some cases even teach!


Last week I was chatting with Isabel (far left in photo below) about her dancing adventures in London, England where she is earning her masters and jokingly asked her if she wanted to teach Hip Hop in 10 minutes. Without missing a beat, she said YES! And boy, did she do a great job!!


There is nothing that brings me more joy than seeing our dancers succeed in life, but having them come back and share with our current students is a true cherry on top.


FUN FACTS: Did you know that of the 16 teachers we have on staff:

  • 8 are LDC alum (talk about knowing our LDC culture inside and out!)
  • 3 started in our adult class and have since become teachers (and still take adult class!)
  • Miss Deanna and I used to teach Miss Michelle when she was a teenager at a different studio (pre-LDC days)
  • Miss Elizabeth and Miss Emma are TRUE LDC "OGs", dancing with us since the VERY beginning in 2008!!

Last month I had the honor of being interviewed by an online magazine that focuses on the stories of artists, creatives and entrepreneurs.


It's always fun to be able to share my story and the story of Liberty Dance Center.

LOOKING AHEAD:


STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY (1/19-1/31)

  • One of our favorite times of year. The dancers are often asking to do certain moves or creating their own dances during water breaks and out in the lobby/locker rooms.
  • Now they get to work together in small groups on their own to create their own special dance.
  • Dancers age 2-3 & 4-5 will do this too, but with the guidance of their teachers! So fun to see what their favorite moves are :)
  • The teachers will be there to guide and help if needed, but ultimately the dancers are on their own for this project.
  • WHY do we do this? Because it's fun AND more importantly, they learn...
  • to work as a team
  • to voice their ideas and opinions with their peers
  • to explore their creativity
  • to test their knowledge on what they've learned so far
  • to keep things exciting during these cold, winter months


TEAM SHOWCASE (SUNDAY 2/15 2:00pm)

  • Interested in joining one of our 3 teams next season? Love to watch dance? Then this is the show for you!
  • LDC's Sparkle Squad, Performing Company AND Competition Team will be performing at our annual team showcase.
  • This show is full of different styles, group dances, solos...so much talent and passion!
  • More details to come, (tickets go on sale 2/2/26) but mark your calendars.
  • You DON'T want to miss this show!

REMINDERS:

INCLEMENT WEATHER

Tis the season!!! Some reminders about our inclement weather policy.


  • We will aim to make the call by NOON for evening classes.
  • We do not necessarily follow schools, as sometimes it's worse in the morning, sometimes worse in the evening.
  • If we do close, we will announce via: Email, Facebook & Instagram and TMJ4.
  • If we are open, but you don't feel safe driving...please stay home!
  • Safety is our number one concern for our dancers/families, staff and teenage drivers.
  • If we cancel or you choose to not attend, simply make up your missed class(es) at your convenience!

If you are new to us...we can't wait for your to experience the magic that is recital! You may think it's just one weekend in the spring, but there are quite a few elements and special moments throughout the year that make up this special core memory.

RECITAL WEBSITE IS LIVE: We have a dedicated recital website that will house all of the information you will need. We spread it out over the course of the season, so not all is released yet. But it will all be released as the time comes.

COSTUMES: They have started to arrive!! It takes us a bit of time to get them organized and ready to hand out (LOTS of behind the scenes steps and spreadsheets). But we will be working on that and handout begins in February!
