Promoting Healthy Programs, Students, and Staff
This month, the Health E*Bulletin focuses on the School Activities and Recess component of the Wellness Leadership Committee – in celebration of upcoming National Physical Fitness and Sports month (May)!
School Activities and Recess
Project ACES
Have you heard about Project ACES? Project ACES is an international youth fitness collaboration, celebrating 30-years as the world’s largest exercise class. Each May [National Physical Fitness and Sports Month], millions of school children all over the globe exercise simultaneously in a symbolic gesture of fitness. This non-competitive program has proven to be educational, motivational, and fun. This year, the date is set for May 2, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. and LEARN will be participating! Be sure to check with a member of the Wellness Leadership Committee to find out details on how your school will be marking the day with exercise! Click for more on Project ACES.

Dunk Your Kicks
For the Wellness Leadership Committee, school activity, recess, and national physical fitness and sports month is about changing lives through exercise and by helping others. From now until May 2, we will be helping other people around the world who do not own footwear, and walk/run/exercise barefoot. Each year, 200 million pairs of sneakers get thrown away. How about making those gently used sneakers available as affordable footwear to developing nations in need, while at the same time, helping children who are battling cancer right here in the U.S.? LEARN’s Wellness Leadership Committee has teamed up with Dunk Your Kicks to do just that. Now is the time! Clean out those closets, check the shelves in your basement, scour the corners of your garage - dig out your old and gently used sneakers to donate TODAY! Collection boxes are located in LEARN’s lobby at 44 Hatchetts Hill Road, Old Lyme and in each of our LEARN magnet schools. Click for more on Dunk Your Kicks.
