Ahoy my fellow captains,

Gosh, are we really halfway through May already? That is hard to believe.

Hopefully, everyone probably has their boat in the water by now and enjoying the jig fishing bite.

Governor’s Fish Ohio Day is Tuesday, June 25 see additional information within this newsletter.

There will also be a Meet and Greet the evening of Monday, June 24 at the Bait House from 5-7. All Captains and first mates are invited to the Meet and Greet.

This is your opportunity to meet and have casual conversations with the States representatives and staff as well as the staff from the Division of Natural Resources and the Division of Wildlife. Hope to see you all there.

Save the date … Captains Day at Stone Lab, Tuesday, August 27, 2024. More information to be announced.

As for me, my health is being a challenge. I’m still kicking cancer’s A** and taking names. I went through all 6 chemo treatments over 5 months for the Non-Hodgkin's Large B Cell Lymphoma.

I rang the bell on April 10 after my last chemo treatment, but then a follow-up PET scan showed a lymph node that decided it wanted to be a bad a** and not respond to the treatment. It was surgically removed and biopsied and found to still be malignant.

Now I’m off to the James Wexner Cancer Center at OSU to determine the next course of action.

Thanks in advance for keeping all those positive thoughts and prayers coming.

Until then,

Tight lines and signing off,

Respectfully,

Captain Peg

Why you should participate

Captain Peg VanVleet

LECBA

Why should you volunteer your boat and knowledge for a day?

This is an excellent opportunity to talk with our legislators when you have them out on the water showing them what is happening with our lake.

This is your chance to express your thoughts and ask how they are going about helping clean up our lake.

Captains that volunteer receive the day of the event:

·       Breakfast snacks and drinks

·       Ice for the day

·       Bait for the day

·       Captains gift from ODNR and Division of wildlife

·       Snacks for the day

·       Lunch at the Shores and Islands Visitor’s Center

From LECBA you’ll receive:

·       Next year’s membership

·       Your first mate will receive next year’s membership.

·       A stipend to help off set the cost of expenses to run your boat.

If your interested in volunteering for this great event … please contact Captain Peg at 937-414-6742 or email pegvanvleet@gmail.com

Fisherman's Prayer

God Grant that I may live to fish until my dying day,

and when it comes to my last cast,

I then most humbly pray;

When in the Lord's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep,

That in His mercy I be judged as good enough to keep.

"Just the Facts" Captains

According to Mariana Wong from Cottage Life magazine:

"The Lake Erie basin was the last to be explored by Europeans, as Iroquoian tribes that inhabited the Niagara River area did not allow explorers or traders to pass through."
