Join us on our journey through the wilderness.

Do you have an image that brings you comfort or stillness?
A picture that you took or one that you borrowed from elsewhere, it doesn't matter. If the photo evoked calmness and peace, you are invited to share it with us for our Forty Days of Stillness quest. Just email it to [email protected].

Be Still My Soul: LAST WEEK
Soup Supper & Centering Prayer Workshop
Join us at 5:30pm next Wednesday, 3/13. Even if you haven't gone to previous sessions! Consider it an opportunity for learning and appreciating stillness: using silent prayer and meditation that we work on together. We’re encouraging everyone then to join us on Maundy Thursday for "The Watch" at the Altar of Repose, reduced to one hour of silent prayer and meditation immediately following the stripping of the altar. It’s a skill and an experience you can use forever.

A Reflection from Fr. Perry
|
|
What a difference a year makes…
The Fourth Sunday in Lent is traditionally called Laetare Sunday from the Latin word for Rejoice. When the mass was sung in Latin, this was the first word that the faithful would have heard chanted on this particular Sunday. Even though our modern service begins with the words “Gracious Father” in the opening collect, the attitude of the day has not changed—Laetare Sunday is a day for us to rejoice in God’s goodness to all of us.
The emphasis on rejoicing in the middle of Lent is one of the reasons that my first Sunday at All Saints’ was Laetare Sunday last year. The date on the calendar was a little later because Easter was later (March 14th was my first day in the office, March 19th was my first Sunday), but the liturgical day is a very special milestone for me that is now infused with significance. I was rejoicing at the chance to be with all of you, and one year later, the feeling is very much the same: I am grateful for the chance to be among you and serve alongside you.
This year, we have many reasons to rejoice. Our outreach ministries are back out in the community doing wonderful work in the name of Christ. Attendance is up across the board and participation in formation is growing for all ages. We just concluded one of the most successful pledge campaigns in the last decade and our financial health is steadily improving after a pandemic slump. And as encouraging as the signs of health and vitality within our community are, they are just the beginning.
Last year I quoted the great theologian Verna Dozier during my first sermon: “The genius of Christianity is not creed or institution, but the vision of a new possibility for human life rooted in an ancient understanding of God, and articulated and lived out by a Nazarene carpenter from that tradition.” For the last year, we’ve worked to see that dream of new possibilities grow at All Saints’. I am grateful to be on this journey of new possibilities with each and every one of you and I continue to be excited about the work God is calling us to complete within our parish, across our community, and around the world.
So rejoice with me and together let’s give God the thanks and glory for this wonderful place we call home.
Peace, love, and gratitude,
Perry+
