In the United States, we celebrate Engineers Week or E-Week in the week of February which encompasses George Washington's birthday, February 22
nd
. This year E-Week fell on the week of February 18
th
thru 24
th
. Like every year, we held the E-Week banquet to recognize the engineers who are leaders in our engineering community, to support those who are determined to make a difference, and to encourage the young generation to pursue the field of science and technology.
We formally presented awards to Karen Holden, Roy Waggenspack, Dr. Quin Jim Chen, Carolina Herrera, and our state winner Ann Trappey. We awarded the William A. Wintz Jr. Scholarship to four deserving engineering students from LSU and SU: Claire Like, Mia McKee, Stephen Torry Jr. and Jameese McCray. We also recognized potential future engineers from Glasgow Middle School and the LSU Lab for their top placement in the MathCounts Regional Competition. It’s amazing to see how bright these students are at such a young age!
The Baton Rouge Chapter has a lot going on in the next few months. Our next Chapter Luncheon will be held on Thursday March 29
th

There will also be a presentation by our guest speaker Mr. Reed Richards, Assist. Superintendent of System Planning at BREC.
Coming up in April, we have two opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the spring. Our Annual William A. Wintz Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for April 13th at the Copper Mill Golf Course. This tournament is always a great time and this event funds the scholarships awarded to very deserving students of the LSU and SU engineering program.
