D ear Parents,

Happy Thursday!  We have a very busy and exciting weekend coming up, and I hope that you will be able to join us.  We will kick off Friday night with our Daddy Daughter Dance.  Dinner will begin being served at 6:00 pm, and then the actual dance will begin 6:30 pm.  It will conclude around 8:30 pm.  Then, on Saturday, March 3,  our district  will host our  inaugural S.T.E.M. Festival from 9:00 - 2:00 at Lovejoy High School.  This will be an interactive day for students to experience various activities where they can "See, Learn, Do."  We will also have some of our third and fourth graders presenting their learning around their STEM projects.  To conclude our activities for the weekend,  our choir will perform "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" on Saturday night at the Frisco Classic benefiting Cystic Fibrosis during the Texas A&M vs Baylor baseball game.  I look forward to seeing all of you this weekend.

Late Night Leopard Campus Campout Volunteer Opportunities
Lovejoy Elementary's campout will take place April 13th, 2018.  Our overall objective is to create a fun school and community event while raising money for the district. All proceeds after $30K will stay right here at Lovejoy Elementary! Many activities are planned for this event which means there are many volunteer opportunities to participate. Open House - Thursday, March 8th
Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 8th as it's our annual open house from 6:00 - 7:15 pm.  Also, we will be having our 3rd Grade Program beginning at 
6:45 pm in the Lovejoy Elementary Gym.  We hope you all will be able to join us!

3rd Grade Program
Please join us on Thursday, March 8th for the 3rd Grade Music Program. This year we will be demonstrating folk dances we have been practicing throughout the year. Bring your dancing shoes, as we will be inviting members of the audience to learn a dance! Our performance will begin at 6:45 pm. Students will report to the music room at 6:30 pm. Dress in red school wide shirt and dark pants/jeans.

Book Fair
Pets love reading too!  Come find new books to read to them at the Spring Book Fair!  The Book Fair will be March 5th - 9th during school hours. We will be open late until 6:00 pm on Tuesday night and will also be open during Open House on Thursday night.  The book fair will close on Friday at 12:00 pm. NEW! El Pollo Loco Spirit Night
Support Lovejoy Elementary School and eat at El Pollo Loco before you head over to Open House on Thursday, March 8th.  You can eat anytime between 12:00 pm and 9:00pm. Mention Lovejoy Elementary when ordering and 50% of the sale will go to Lovejoy Elementary. The funds will be used for our 1st Annual Campus Campout.

Double L Choir at Frisco Baseball Classic
The Double L Choir will perform "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the Frisco College Baseball Classic on Saturday, March 3rd at the Texas A&M vs. Baylor game during the 7th inning! For more information about the tournament, plea se  click here.

It's not too late! Register today for early pricing ($30 per family) or even tomorrow at the door ($40), we'd still love to have you join us for a night of food, fun and dancing with your sweet thing as the LES PTA hosts a CandyLand themed Daddy Daughter Dance! Doors will open for dinner at 6:00 pm and dancing begins at 6:30 pm. Girls are encouraged to dress all in one color, or in whatever their heart desires. Dads, jeans are welcome as long as your little peppermint approves. Tickets include a pasta dinner (gluten free pasta will be available), dessert, a photo booth, a candy bar and priceless memories with your daughter(s)! Lovejoy ISD will be closed Monday, March 12th - March 16th for Spring Break! We will resume as usual on Monday, March 19th.  We hope everyone has a fun and safe break!

Gifted and Talented Referrals for 2018-2019
The referral window for gifted and  talented services opens February 1st for students in grades 1-12. The window will remain open through March 31, 2018.
Click here for the referral forms located online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All referrals must be completed in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. A line is included to type the name of the individual referring the student (parent, teacher, other educator, or student).

Testing is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th and 28th.

Astronaut Academy Camp
This Spring Break, students can BLAST OFF to The Perot Museum and learn all about what life is like on the International Space Station! Students will conduct experiments just like the astronauts and design their own rocket. The camp is for PreK - 4th grade students. Online Auction:Now - March 6th  
The Denim and Diamond Online Auction is open now through March 6th at 10:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to win unique and special experiences for your students, which have been donated by Lovejoy staff members. The Spring Fling Socials for grades K-4 are new this year. K-4th grade parents will receive a flyer in the Thursday folder with additional information. Taste of Fairview: March 2nd
Back by popular demand, the 3rd Annual Taste of Fairview will be presented by Estate Life Magazine in partnership with the Allen Fairview Chamber, Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club, and the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools.

Denim and Diamonds - Lone Starry Night: April 7th
Through your generosity and support, the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools awarded grants totaling $451,100 to teachers for use in their classrooms this year. The Foundation is funded primarily from Annual Appeal and the Denim and Diamonds (D&D) Gala and Auction. The Foundation's goal this year is to cover D&D costs with sponsorships prior to the night of the event so all monies spent at the event go directly to fund classroom grants.
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host its 12th annual Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano. This year's theme is a Lone Starry Night. Foundation for Lovejoy Schools Chair, Carrie McClure and Co-Chair, Aimee Peay welcome you to a night featuring dinner, entertainment and live auctions.
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host a raffle for three great prizes, which includes:

·          $2500 VISA gift card - donated by Owens Realtors
·          EZ Go Golf cart - Completely Remodeled and Refurbished Model 2014 TXT-PDS with 2014 upbody with flip seating, new batteries, tires and LED head/tail lights. New factory-painted, flame-red body. EC Custom Carts - value $5,000
·          Arcade Game Table - Designed like original arcade table from the 80s. Table can be customized, featuring officially licensed graphics of favorite College, Pro Team, etc. - value $4,400

Raffle tickets are $100. Only 500 tickets will be sold. A drawing will be held for each item, giving each ticket a chance to win one of these prizes. Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten
Lovejoy ISD is accepting applications for tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten. This comprehensive program will be staffed by credentialed teachers and housed on the Puster Elementary School campus.  This program will offer enhancements in music, fitness, art, library, science, technology, engineering, and math. We are enthusiastic to provide a Lovejoy education for community members looking for a rich learning experience which will provide a firm foundation for kindergarten and beyond.

Lovejoy Gifted Association Rocket Launch: March 21st
3....2....1.... Blast Off.....It's Rocket Launch Time.
Back by popular demand, the Lovejoy Gifted Association is partnering with the Dallas Area Rocket Society (DARS) for the annual LGA Rocket Project. The Rocket Project is an extracurricular STEM activity at which your child builds a rocket one evening, then launches it another day, all with the assistance of the professionals from DARS.
The Lovejoy Gifted Association is a non-profit organization supporting Gifted and Talented programs across all schools in Lovejoy ISD. The Rocket Project is a fundraiser with proceeds directly benefiting Lovejoy students. If you have questions, contact Jay van Rijn.

Relay for Life: April 6
Relay for Life is an annual event wh
ich will be held at Willow Springs Middle School to raise awareness of cancer and to donate to cancer research. This year's initiative is to bring the Lovejoy community together as a whole to promote a sense of unity and caring. We hope you will save the date of April 6th and join us for Relay for Life.

The high school Relay for Life committee is also organizing a tribute to those who have been affected by cancer. If you have a story to share, please contact Katherine Guo.

Relay for Life Gallery Wall Opportunity
To encourage participation of students at the elementary and intermediate school levels, the LHS Relay for Life organizers are hosting a coloring page activity. Students may click here to print the coloring page and decorate it as creatively as they can. They may then turn the page into the receptionist desk at their campus to receive a pencil, sticker or other prize.  The event organizers will use all coloring pages to create a gallery wall for the event, which will represent loving support for those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

Relay for Life Luminarias
Relay for Life is selling Luminarias for the Relay for Life event on April 6th at Willow Springs Middle School. Luminarias honor those whose lives have been affected by cancer. You may dedicate a Luminari to loved ones who lost their battles with cancer, someone currently battling cancer, or anyone who has overcome cancer. When you attend the Relay event, you will see the Luminarias placed around the track, decorated with names and sometimes messages to whom they are dedicated. Luminarias are $10.
