Principal Message:  May 3, 2018
D ear Parents,

Wow! We have definitely been spoiled this week for Teacher Appreciation week. A big thank you to our PTA and all of you for your generous donations in the form of food, gifts, and time.  A special thank you to Erin Woods, the PTA Hospitality Chair for all of your efforts in coordinating this weeks events.  We appreciate our amazing community's thoughtfulness and continuous support.

We would also like to thank the PTA for sponsoring today's special program, Mr. Blue Shoes. Mr. Blue Shoes is a a highly interactive and engaging live music experience that combines Blues music, oral history, and life lessons, designed to inspire children of all ages about music and learning.  It was a fantastic show, and we loved it.  A great question that you can ask your child is, "tell me what you learned today about the blues."

As always, if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

All My Best,
Wendy Craft

NEW! Note from the Nurse Nash - Medication Pick Up
If your child has medicine at school, please make sure your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year. You are responsible for picking up any extra medicine as the school district has a policy against sending medicines home with students. At the end of this school year, any remaining medicines, including inhalers, will be thrown out. The school cannot store these for you during the summer. If you have questions, please contact Debbie Nash at 469.742.8132 or email

NEW! Storm Season is Here!
With the uncertainty of North Texas weather in the spring, I want to be clear about our approach to emergency weather procedures on campus. We have designated weather safe rooms on the interior of the campus. In the event there is a tornado warning, students and staff will take shelter in their designated rooms. We will monitor weather radars to ensure we are aware of how close severe weather is to Lovejoy Elementary. In the event there is a tornado in the immediate area, we will not release students in order to ensure their safety. If you arrive on campus prior to this particular time, we will ask that you join your child in their severe weather location. Once it has been determined that a tornado is in the immediate area, ALL staff (especially front office staff) will take shelter and will not be available to let visitors in through the front door. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Craft.

Lovejoy Parent Authors Book
Susan Hoemke, a Lovejoy parent, has authored a book titled, Healing Scarred Hearts which will be released on May 8th.  Following is information shared by Susan:

"After we lost our son Hayden in 2014 to drug overdose and our family was impacted the 8 years as he struggled with addiction and personality disorder, I began to feel the need to educate other families about what all we learned. I have been working with Kathy Stone to build a better drug awareness program. In 2016, when the Opioid crisis made the news, I decided to write a book and in 2017 Brown Books Publishing accepted my manuscript and this began the process to bring our story to the frontline. Healing Scarred Hearts will be released May 8th with hopes to bring education and healing to the complicated issue of substance abuse, addiction and overdose. My book also shares the crisis of legal issues that many times are associated with kids and substance abuse."
