Dear  Lovejoy Families,

By now, I'm sure you have heard about our fancy new Gaga Pit that was built this past weekend by an awesome group of parents and students.  Our Gaga Pit was generously donated to us by Lovejoy HVAC. We appreciate their support to enhance our students' recess experience. Here are some photos of the building process.

Our students have loved playing in it this week, and I know that they will enjoy it for many years.  This is another great example of our amazing community working together to support the students of Lovejoy Elementary.
In other exciting news this week, we celebrated our KINDNESS!  As some of you are aware, we started a new KINDNESS initiative where students recognize kind acts that they see in their peers, and then it is spotlighted every week in their classroom. We keep a total of the kind acts. I wonder if we can get to 1,000 kind acts by Christmas break...  This is another great example of our PTA supporting our school.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

All My Best,
Wendy Craft

NEW! Manners Matter
We have noticed that an area of growth for all students is improving our manners and interactions.  Our focus for the past six weeks has been Respect and one way to show Respect is by having good manners.  We would love your help with improving these important life skills. Our current focus is saying "yes" or "yes ma'am/sir" instead of "yeah".  We know our students will shine!

NEW! Fire Truck Visits LES
The Fairview Fire Department will be visiting Kindergarten - 2nd Grade on Wednesday, October 9th. This is a great time for our students to learn about fire prevention.

Please email Wendy Craft at wendy_craft@lovejoyisd.net   if you are interested in being a part of this very important committee.

LAST CHANCE: Talent Show!
It's time to start thinking of planning and preparing for Lovejoy's annual talent show! This year we are excited to showcase our students' talents as a culmination of our Red Ribbon Week celebration on Thursday, October 31st. Since we know that in order to master a talent or skill, you need a healthy, drug free mind and body, we can't think of a better way to end the week than to show what our students can do when they commit to living a healthy drug free life! Our theme for Red Ribbon Week is, "Send a Message: One Choice, One Life, Be Drug Free!" and to go along with that theme, our talent show will be called the "Send a Message with your Talent" We are requesting that all acts relate to or align with that theme and demonstrate how students can send a healthy message through performing special talents and skills at their highest level. Talent Show registration will be completed online this year. Please click here to access the Talent Show rules and guidelines, and to access the online registration form .   Music may be emailed to Wendy Hebert or submitted to this  Google Drive .   Please note, School facilities (classrooms, gym, stage, Leopard Spot, Gathering Spot, etc.) will not be available for Talent Show practice.  All practices and rehearsals must be held off campus. We can't wait to see what incredible talents
our little leopards bring to our Healthy Selfie Showcase!

PowerSchool Parent Portal Absences Reporting
Lovejoy ISD has added a feature to PowerSchool Parent Portal where parents can enter the excuse notes for a student absences. For more information about absence reporting click here.

NEW! PowerSchool Parent Portal Access Tips
Here are some quick bullets about the PowerSchool Parent Portal:
  • Unless you have changed your username after August 12, 2019, the username is the email address that is associated to the parent account. The log of invalid logins that we are seeing are typically parent accounts that are trying to use something other than an email address as the username.
  • Recently users have been denied access and it is determined that they are not using the correct URL. Please make sure that you are going to http://powerschool.lovejoyisd.net . If you see Welcome to Unified Classroom, you are on the wrong site. This is another PowerSchool product that we do not have a subscription as it duplicates Google Classroom.
  • Remember that the mobile app is only a tool for updates on assignments, grades, and attendance. Typically to access the Enrollment Forms, Absence Reason Excuses, GPA Information, and the Random Drug Testing Forms you must use a tablet, laptop or desktop and the URL above. From a mobile phone, you can use your browser and go to the URL above; however, once logged in it is difficult to navigate.
