January 7, 2021
Dear Lovejoy Families,

It was great to see all of our students yesterday. Our staff and students came back eager to kick off the second semester, and I know that the Craft's definitely were ready to get back on a schedule. As a friendly reminder, please contact Mrs. George, Nurse Nash, or myself if you are exhibiting symptoms or have come in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or have a positive case in your house before just logging on and attending school virtually. Thank you in advance for contacting us before logging on virtually.

Tomorrow, you will be able to access your child's Q2 report card in PowerSchool. We will not be sending home a printed copy.

The month of January is School Board Appreciation Month. Each campus will be honoring one of our board members and recognizing him/her for the invaluable service they provide our district. We are thrilled to honor Mrs. Anne Smith and we look forward to sharing more about her with our students and community soon!

Have you ever had that moment driving down the road where you realized that you did not do something out of the blue and you are mortified? Well, I had that moment over Christmas break as I was wrapping presents, and I was thinking about our awesome teachers. I realized that I forgot to announce our Heart of the Teachers not only for December but also for November. So, please join me in celebrating our Heart of the Teacher for November, Mrs. Meredith Tays, and for December, Mrs. Courtney Alford. Mrs. Tays and Mrs. Alford both build strong relationships with their students and work diligently to ensure each of their students' grow their heart and mind. We are so lucky that they are a part of our staff, and I appreciate all that they do for our students.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel to contact me at any time.

All My Best,
Wendy Craft

Kindergarten Advanced Academic Assessment

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This letter is to notify families of an upcoming assessment in your student’s classroom. All kindergarten students will be given an academic ability test in their homeroom class during the school day. This test is administered through Lovejoy ISD’s Advanced Academics department. Assessment results will be sent home to parents, complete with an interpretation of your student’s scores to help you better understand your child’s academic ability. Additionally, these assessment results for students referred for gifted and talented services will be used as a criterion in the referral process.

The assessment consists of three content areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal ability. Students will complete approximately forty-five minutes of testing per day, over the course of January 12-14.

Students will have the test read aloud to them, and will take the assessment using an iPad. Frequent breaks are embedded throughout the testing process to ensure student comfort. Support staff is also present to help assist students who may have questions or require additional guidance.

Virtual learners may attend class during the designated testing times on January 12-14 to participate in the assessment. Families of virtual learners who wish to postpone assessment may request an appointment for spring testing through the Advanced Academics department.

If you have questions about the assessment, testing procedure, or results, please contact a member of your Advanced Academics team, Brie Smith or Kari Lockhart.

Brie Smith, Director of Advanced Academics
Kari Lockhart, Advanced Academics Coordinator

Athletic Tickets
There has been some confusion in regards to ticket sales, as in the past all students and staff have been allowed in free to all athletic contests (with school ID).  Due to UIL covid-19 attendance capacity limitation regulations we are forced to charge for entrance to all athletic contests for all staff and students. The tickets sales assist the athletic department in keeping with the capacity limitations required of us. If you have questions, please contact the Lovejoy Athletic Office.
Need Technology Help?
