October 22, 2020
Dear Lovejoy Families,

I hope that this email finds you doing well. We have had a great week of learning this week, and we are so excited for all of the events for Red Ribbon Week beginning on Monday, October 26th. Please read below for detailed information. We will be concluding next week with a program by James Wand provided to us by our amazing PTO. We will be sending more information out in your child's folder today and also next week. It will definitely be a program that you do not want to miss!

I wanted to discuss a change that we will be making in our cafeteria for our on campus learners. During lunch, we will go from having 3 students to sit out a cafeteria table to five students per table. This will allow for our students to have more social interaction with their peers and us accommodate all of our on-campus learners while also maintain social distancing. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, please feel free to reach out to me. Below, you will see what our new layout will look like beginning Monday, October 26th.
I hope that you have a safe and restful weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

All My Best,
Wendy Craft

LES Information
Red Ribbon Week 2020
Next week will be our annual Red Ribbon Week celebration, a time when we teach, promote, and encourage children to live happy, healthy, drug free lives. The theme this year is "Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free!" This serves as a reminder that we are all empowered with impacting communities around us through positivity, bravery, and strength. We hope this theme encourages our leopards to feel confident to express themselves and their feelings as they face different situations in their lives.

A Red Ribbon Week flyer will be coming home in your child's take home folder today, but you can also find the details for the week in the picture link below.

Click on the Red Ribbon Week room where you will find out more information about next week's schedule of events. Items in the room are linked to additional information and fun activities for you and your child surrounding Red Ribbon Week.
7th Annual Letter Writing Campaign!

Lovejoy Family!! The 7th annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign for teachers and staff members has begun! Many of you are familiar with this beloved tradition, but for those of you who are not, it is the time of year when we write appreciation letters for each of our teachers and staff members across the district.
The letters do not have to be elaborate or lengthy. The goal is just for people to write a note of thanks to show appreciation to their teachers, the staff and administration in our district. It is the opportunity for us to take the time to let each person who makes a difference for us throughout the school day know how much we value them.

Please clearly label the envelope with the staff/teacher’s name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return the letter to the box located at specified location of each campus no later than Friday November 13th. Please feel free to share this message as we spread the word about the campaign. We do not want to add any extra burden to our kids and parents, but we do want to share how much we appreciate our teachers and staff - especially this year in these very unusual times!

Reminder About Masks!
I am needing your help in making sure that our kids are coming to school in a clean mask daily. We can face a new battle that involves infection around our little noses and mouths if we reuse a mask from the previous day or don't handle our masks with a level of cleanliness while at school. Impetigo is a contagious infection that first looks like a sore that can develop around the nose and mouth, then blistering and draining which require a doctor's visit and medication.   I know this is a new challenge for us and the children are doing a fantastic job keeping their masks on at the appropriate times as well as washing hands.  Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, Nurse Debbie! 972.469.8132.

Thank you!
A huge thank you for the extra clothes that were donated to the clinic. We appreciate your help with this!

LES Thankful Cart
Our LES teachers and staff have been amazing during these strange and ever changing times! Lets show them how we appreciate them by providing a "Thankful Snack Cart" on November 13th. Erin and Janean have offered to go door to door with our snacks/drinks we provide (since we can't go inside). Due to Covid we cannot accept large size products (1ltr, family size, etc). They must be INDIVIDUAL SIZED. Please drop your items off by NOVEMBER 6TH to front table in entry or send with your kiddo labeled front office. If we provide more than they can hand out in one day the hope is to have another day of the snack cart!

Art Sparks

Art Sparks is...

A CELEBRATION of the visual arts focusing on elementary school students. An art appreciation program which exposes over 6000 Allen school children and adults to great works of art.

An EXPLORATION of what is seen with one’s eyes, as well as with one’s heart and intellect. Students use not only their eyes, but also their intellect and heart to put into words thoughts about what a work of art means on a personal level.

A COLLABORATION of city local sponsorship and citizen talent. ArtSparks is sponsored by the Allen Arts Alliance and staffed by dedicated community volunteers. Volunteers include parents, grandparents, retired educators, and local business leaders among others.

We are excited to announce that Art Sparks WILL be returning this year! We have a great ONLINE version of the program that provides an up-close and informative look at Art & Art History.

We would love to have parents take advantage of presenting to your child's class. There will be a total of four presentations for the school year. These will be done virtually. You will need to be comfortable with ZOOM and screen sharing. All of the material will be provided.

If you are interested in volunteering for your child’s class please contact Christina Broyles or click below!

District News
Lovejoy Elementary Cafeteria
Starting Monday, October 26th, Student Nutrition Services will be adjusting the lunch service to again allow students to select the food components they wish to eat for lunch. This is the same practice that was implemented for several years until this school year. At the start of this school year Student Nutrition Services pre-plated all five food components on the student's tray for them

Students are offered five food components at each lunch. They will be required to select at least 3 of 5 components and one must be a fruit or vegetable. Students can select all 5 components if they choose. The selected items will still be plated for the students to minimize incidental touching.

If you have any questions please contact Student Nutrition Services at 469.742-8041.

Athletic Tickets
There has been some confusion in regards to ticket sales, as in the past all students and satff have been allowed in free to all athletic contests (with school ID).  Due to UIL covid-19 attendance capacity limitation regulations we are forced to charge for entrance to all athletic contests for all staff and students. The tickets sales assist the athletic department in keeping with the capacity limitations required of us. If you have questions, please contact the Lovejoy Athletic Office.
