LET THE FESTIVAL BEGIN!

Hello Theatre Lovers!

Well it happened, folks. The baby grew up. I turned 60 on July 1st! Thank you to everyone who sent good wishes, and to those who even donated to Theatre Collingwood because of this milestone! The biggest present of all this year will be that I get to be a part of LIVE theatre once again!

This week we will venture back into live presentations with our PORCHSIDE FESTIVAL, beginning Thursday, July 8th and running thru to July 26th. On behalf of our staff, our Board of Directors, and all the performers, thank you to everyone who bought tickets and made this a SOLD OUT festival, even before the first show begins! If you were unable to get ticket please know that we have more in store for you later in the season. Stay tuned! Also, feel free to call the office to be put on the cancellation list, in case any tickets become available for the festival. We plan to continue and expand the festival next year, so you will want to shop early when that is announced in 2022.

For the festival, we have 8 incredible locations and I would like to thank all our porch owners. As in life, in theatre “things can happen”. There have been a few last minute changes to the festival so please note the following:

July 5th & 6th Ode to My Inheritance CANCELLED

July 10th & 11th Bruce Dow In Concert Is now Jeff Madden in My Life In Song – Act 2

July 12th & 13th Love, Lust & Longing…a la Cole Porter! Added to the festival
SO WHAT IF IT RAINS?
Many people are asking about what will happen if it rains during a festival show. For this outdoor festival we ask that you come prepared for the weather. It may be hot & sunny during the matinees so you may want to wear a hat and bring water. We will try to proceed with all shows. If we have a light sprinkle we will try to proceed or wait it out, as long as it is safe to do so. If we have to cancel a show we will try to reschedule either the specific show or a new one, or you can ask for a refund. Outdoor festivals are super fun, and the weather (and all other outdoor occurrences) are part of it. Please remember to bring your lawn chair or blanket, and remember there are no washrooms on site. All shows are approximately 1 hour long, except for LOVE LETTERS, which is an hour and a half in length.

Allow yourself time to park, as some areas are better than others when it comes to parking. Note: if you are attending the Dean Hollin show, Love, Lust & Longing…a la Cole Porter, on Third Street, First Presbyterian Church has granted permission to park there!

Please note that at some of our shows we will have the honour of having an artists on site displaying and selling their beautiful creations. This is part of the REGIONAL ARTS ACTION NETWORK, a collective in which Theatre Collingwood is a member and supporter. Artists Supporting Artists.

The Collingwood Summer Music Festival invites you to join them for a unique, drive-in experience this summer from July 10-16. The festival brings Grammy and Juno-nominated artists to Collingwood each year in the fields of classical, jazz and world music. This year also features SIX brilliant Indigenous artists, THREE Canadian Premieres, TWO local painters (who will paint to music), TWO renowned poets, morning events for youth, and a movie screening - "Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked The World.

You can choose to enjoy the LIVE world-class music performances from the safety of your car with $10 from every drive-in ticket going toward the Unison Benevolent Fund, a charity that alleviates the hardships experienced by many Canadian musicians as a result of the pandemic. Or you can watch virtually. The choice is yours!
First up on July 10th is the Inaugural Pop Opera Concert, featuring over a dozen members of The National Academy Orchestra of Canada and several rising stars of the Canadian opera scene, directed by Maestro Boris Brott. The PopOpera programme will feature works by Mozart, Bizet, Leoncavallo, Puccini, Verdi, Gounod, Délibes, and Bernstein. It will conclude with two favourite ensembles by Verdi: Va, pensiero (Nabucco) and the Brindisi from La Traviata.
