As our search for a new Lake Forest High School principal progresses we want to keep you informed.
Principal Attributes Survey Responses
First of all, we want to thank you for your incredible participation in our recent survey regarding your preferred attributes for the next LFHS principal. We had over 900 participants including 242 LFHS staff members. That level of engagement shows us just how invested you are in this process and we are grateful.
When asked about the most important areas of focus for a principal, these three came out on top:
- Recruiting and retaining top quality teachers, staff members, and administrators
- Providing clear communications with students, staff, parents/guardians, and community
- Maintaining focus upon students' social/emotional wellness
When asked about the leadership characteristics you value most in a high school principal you prioritized the top three as:
- Knowledge about curriculum and instruction with a deep understanding of how students learn
- Excellent communication skills; speaks and writes articulately and listens carefully to others
- A team-builder who motivates and brings out the best in others
Your feedback has helped shape the profile we are seeking in the next LFHS principal. To assist in our search, we are working with professional recruiting firm B.W.P. & Associates, Ltd.
Next week, I will join our incoming Superintendent Dr. Matt Montgomery and Deputy Superintendent Rebecca Jenkins for a review of an initial slate of candidates. Our current timeline is as follows:
March 23, 2021 - Posting of Position
March 29, 2021 - Principal Attribute Survey available for Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Members
April 5, 2021 - Survey Closes
Ongoing - Preliminary Screening of Candidates/Applicant File Review
April 19, 2021 - Interview Teams Determined (details forthcoming)
Week of April 19, 2021 - Initial Interviews and Presentation of Slate (Dr. Montgomery to participate)
Week of April 26, 2021 - Finalist Interviews (Dr. Montgomery to participate)
May 10, 2021 - Announcement of Selection/Board Approval
July 1, 2021 - Position Begins
As a part of our selection process, we will be assembling interview teams including parents and guardians, students, faculty, staff, administration, and union leadership. We will share more on this effort in the days ahead.
