LFV doings! | SPRING * SUMMER 2020
Staying Connected & Safe
|
|
A Note from Lisa Rosenthal, Executive Director, Little Falls Village
Little Falls Village continues our commitment of "neighbors helping neighbors" which is especially vital during this time of COVID-19 and social distancing. LFV volunteers are making sure that all of our members have adequate food, medicine and supplies. We are creating safe opportunities for socialization including one-on-one calls, groups and great speaker events on Zoom. During April and May, we had over 500 attendees at LFV Zoom events, including many events that were open to all community members! We are helping LFV members with remote tech assistance including teaching them how to Zoom, and we are delivering beautiful handmade masks to our members' doorsteps. All of this keeps our LFV community connected and engaged. LFV leadership is closely monitoring the state and county guidelines, and will maintain compliance with those guidelines as they evolve. In the meantime, we look forward to sharing LFV's virtual programs with you in the comfort of your home! ~
Lisa

Wednesday 9/23: “THREE BILLION BIRDS LOST: The Disappearance of North American Birds and What We Can Do About It
“
with Peter Marra,
Director of the Georgetown Environmental Initiative.
If you were alive in the year 1970, more than one in four birds in the U.S. and Canada has disappeared within your lifetime.
Join
Dr. Marra
as he reviews the first-ever comprehensive assessment of net population changes in the U.S. and Canada which reveals, across-the-board, declines that scientists call “staggering.” Common birds—the species that many people see every day—have suffered the greatest losses, with more than 90% (over 2.5 billion birds) coming from just 12 [bird] families including the sparrows, blackbirds, warblers, and finches. What can be done to stop these losses? What role do we play? Join Dr. Marra for an engaging, thought provoking discussion.

Thank you
to our wonderful volunteers who make LFV a community of Neighbors Helping Neighbors!
|
Volunteers have risen to the occasion during this time of social isolation. Our amazing volunteers have assisted LFV members in obtaining groceries and
medications, making trips to the post office, hardware store, and dry cleaners and picking up the GEHCA / Saval food distribution orders. LFV Volunteers contacted all LFV members to check in and see how they're doing and if they need assistance with services as well as being on the check-in phone tree! Members received masks, made and delivered by volunteers & benefited from Zoom instructions from the LFV Zoom-In Committee, and remote tech assistance. We look forward to restarting in-person services as soon as it is safe to do so.
