Remember that we can assist with more than just a ride. We can also help with household tasks, visits - in person or on the phone, transitioning back home after a hospital or rehab stay, handyperson assistance, errands, getting organized, helping to find answers to a variety of questions you may have, technical assistance and a whole lot more. Thursday, 4/11 @ 1:30 - 3:00 pm: LFV Library Event / "Making an Aging Plan,"  with Miriam Kelty, consultant in Bioethics, Aging, and Research Strategy, Co-President of the Washington Area Villages Exchange, President of Bannockburn Neighbors Assisting Neighbors, Associate Director of the National Institute on Aging and Director of the Institute's Extramural Activities Programs (ALL).  

Wednesday, 4/24 @ 1:30 - 3:00 pm: LFV Library Event / "Suffragists in Washington, D.C.," with journalist, author, radio talk show host, and producer Rebecca Roberts. She is currently the program coordinator for Smithsonian Associates, where she works to highlight the history of our capitol city (ALL).

Tuesday 4/2, 4/16, & 4/30 @ 2:00 - 3:30 pm: LFV Handicrafts Group / Bring needle point, cross stitch, sewing, knitting, quilting, or your favorite project. Discover a new handicraft hobby - our members will teach you! Share great conversation & tea!  The Handicrafts Group meets every other Tuesday at the LFV Office (M&V).

Wednesday 4/3 @ 1:00-3:00 pm: LFV Book Club / "Jazz,"  by Toni Morrison,  LFV Office. The book club meets on the first Wednesday of every other month (M&V).

Thursday 4/18 @ 5:00 - 6:30 pm: Happy Hour & Light Dinner / Enjoy non- & alcoholic drinks, a little dinner & lively conversation with LFV friends at Passion Fin in Sumner Mall, 4611 Sangamore Road, separate checks (M&V).

Tuesday 4/23 @ 12:30 - 2:00 pm: Lunch Bunch / Join us for great conversation and a tasty lunch! Meets monthly at local restaurants. The Iris Inn at Glen Echo, 6119 Tulane Ave (M&V).

Sunday 4/28 @ 1:00 - 5:00 pm: LFV Bike Ride and Trail Walk Club /  Starting point and ending point TBD /  Join the LFV Bikers & Walkers for our first ever bike ride and walk. Capital Crescent Trail to/from Bethesda OR Georgetown (group will decide). At the end of the ride, enjoy pizza, soda and beer. Call the office if you want to join this 1st ride. Rain date May 19 (M&V).

Tuesday 4/30 @ 10:30 - 11:30 am: Poetry Circle  / Bob Heiderer's home.  Bring a poem to read & poetic thoughts to share (M&V).
OUTINGS & SPECIAL EVENTS

Thursday 4/4 @ 4:00 - 6:00 pm: Artist's Talk and Wine & Cheese Reception with Ann Schaefer /  LAUNCH Workplace, 1st Floor North (same building as LFV office, take the right elevator).  M eet the artist and view the Landscape and Cityscape paintings of Ann Schaefer, local artist and LFV member. Ann has over 100 paintings exhibited and for sale. A portion of sales proceeds will be donated to LFV! (M&V)

Sunday 4/7 @ 9:00 am - noon: Great Falls MD Wildflower Walk with Edd Barrows, professor of Biology at Georgetown University / Meet at Safeway on Sangamore, and bring a snack or lunch for a picnic. Rain date is April 14. RSVP by April 3. Will coordinate car pools, or van for $20 transportation cost (M&V).

Tuesday 4/9, leave @ 5:30 pm for 6:30 pm Lecture: Author's Talk And Signing / "John Marshall: The Man Who Made the Supreme Court" - with historian and columnist Richard Brookhiser / Society of the Cincinnati, 2118 Mass. Ave, NW. RSVP by April 5.  $20 transportation cost, lecture is free (M&V).

Wednesday 4/10 @ noon - 2:00 pm:  LFV and Westmoreland Citizens Association Potluck Lunch & Open House /  Celebrate spring with your neighbors and find out about LFV!  RSVP by April 5 and let me know what you are bringing / The Little House in Westmoreland Hills Park, 5315 Elliot Road (ALL).

Saturday 4/13 @ 6:45 - 9:30 pm, meet carpool @ 6:00 pm: Verdi Requiem / National Philharmonic Choral - Strathmore Music Center. Pre-concert lecture 6:45 - 7:15 pm, light dinner/snacks in cafe, concert @ 8:00 pm. Monday 5/13 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm: NEW ART CLASS: Gelatin Printing Art Class. Local Artist & teacher Clare Winslow, will lead a relaxing & enjoyable workshop for all skill levels in which participants will use the technique of gelli printing, with acrylic paint paper, stencils, natural objects, stamps, & collage. $50 cost for class, all tools and materials provided. Tuesday 5/14 @ 6:30 pm: Vince Houghton Presents: Nuking the Moon- The Secret History of History / Join Spy Museum historian Vince Houghton as he launches his book Nuking the Moon which details some of the most glorious missions-born of innovation and desperation-that never made it off the drawing board.
