LGA Annual Operations Conference Highlights
October 24-26, 2016
|
On behalf of the LGA I would like to thank everyone involved in this year's Annual Operating Conference. Beginning Monday with the BBQ Cook-off and Golf Tournament through the Wednesday Annual Meeting all seemed to go very well. I would like to thank the following for their participation and support during the conference. The presenters who volunteered their time, they did an outstanding job presenting their topics. The exhibitors for the support and networking opportunities during the conference. The sponsors for their support of the conference. Lastly the volunteers for their dedication to ensuring a successful event.
The Tuesday night social was especially successful this year, we were able to raise $11,356.00 for the LGA Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the all who donated to this effort, from the raffle tickets to the silent auction this is what allows us to continue to grow the fund and the number of scholarships awarded.
Lastly thanks to all the attendees, hopefully you were satisfied with the topics presented and the event as a whole.
If your were unable to attend this year's conference please make arrangements to attend next year, this is your opportunity to network, meet and see new products from the exhibitors and also attend some very informative sessions from our presenters.
Thank you,
Blaine Spell
LGA President

LGA Marketing Committee Update
|
On August 5-8, 2016 the Louisiana Restaurant Association held their annual EXPO in New Orleans. The Louisiana Gas Association (LGA) participated for the 30th year in the event. This year we demonstrated tankless water heaters,
outdoor burner,
natural gas lighting
by Bevolo
, natural gas generators, a high efficiency Royal Fryer and a Royal hooded broiler. The Royal fryer and hooded broiler were two of the items that received funding from the
Louisiana Research Development Council (
LARDC
)
during the development of the products.
The LARDC is a partner with GTI's Utilization Technology Development NFP Corporation. Its research and development is funded by customers of Atmos, Centerpoint and Entergy to develop or enhance natural gas products.
Chef Greg Reggio (co-owner of Zea, Semolina, Mizado and Taste Buds Catering) prepared many of his favorite dishes on the Royal fryer and hooded broiler. Royal representatives were present and provided the food for the Chef Reggio. "This is the first time that LGA has prepared food for the many attendees of the event and it gave us a great opportunity to increase our outreach and message about natural gas" said Jim Tilley, Chairman LGA Marketing Committee. Attendees were also asked to provide input and fill out a questionnaire about natural gas public awareness in Louisiana. The LGA Marketing committee members involved with planning and working the booth include Jim Tilley, Byron Hardy and Ken Wheat from CenterPoint Energy, Mike DeArmond, Joe Riehlman, Jan Schnexnayder, Kenny Glass, Chris Farkas, Jena Roussell, Jessica Lambert, Donna Stephenson from Atmos Energy, Robert Borne, Matt Long, Demond Taylor, Norman Loustalot from Entergy and Mike St Romain from St Coast Gas.

Comprehensive Study Explores the Benefits of Expanding Natural Gas Service to the Growing Inventory of Multifamily Buildings AGA - September 8, 2016 |
The
American Gas Foundation
released a study published by
ICF International titled, "Expanding Natural Gas Service to Multifamily Buildings," focusing on ways in which state and local government, natural gas utilities, and other interest groups have worked to improve access to natural gas service in multi-family structures in their localities. The study assesses regulatory or policy barriers to providing natural gas service to multi-unit structures, and presents possible solutions to help bring the benefits of natural gas to the owners and occupants of these buildings.
"Multifamily construction is projected to sustain a high share of new housing construction over the next 20 years," said Kathryn Clay, executive director of the American Gas Foundation. "There are enormous benefits for providing access to natural gas in multi-family buildings-both for the environment and for the bottom line of the people that inhabit them. Understanding that multi-family buildings are made up of a wide-range of building types with unique characteristics and needs is critical when looking to expand natural gas service to this growing market."
In the past decade, multifamily construction has risen from less than 25 percent to one-third or more of newly-built residential dwelling units. Notably, if natural gas technologies were applied across all or part of the nation's multifamily building stock, unit occupants could realize $2.2 billion in reduced annual energy bills, or about 6 percent of total energy expenditure for multifamily units in the U.S. Additionally, CO2 emissions would be reduced by more than 20 million tons nationwide.
The study also highlights utility-led initiatives that have demonstrated success, and describe lessons learned through these efforts to provide insight to other utilities with similar goals to serve these communities. You can view the report along with the case studies here.
