We are seeking nominations for our 2019 LGBTQAA Distinguished Alumni Award. The deadline to submit nominations is
October 30, 2018
. The award is available to members of the LGBTQ community and individual allies or supporters of the LGBTQ community, regardless of sexual orientation. Only living alumni of Indiana University are eligible. Nominees shall have made significant contributions benefiting Indiana University or their community, state or nation. Be Golden is hosting its second annual women's empowerment conference October 4-6 in downtown Bloomington.
Keynote speaker Ericka Hart,
a self-described Black Queer Femme activist, writer, speaker, and sexuality educator will take the main stage on October 6th with the IU Essence Dance Team opening up the presentation.

National Coming Out Day - October 11

Celebrate National Coming Out Day on campus by coming to the LGBTQ+ Culture Center to make a flower crown anytime from 9am - 7pm.
This event is free and open to everybody. All materials will be provided. Just show up and staff and volunteers will help you craft a flower crown or bracelet that uniquely reflects you. Click here for more information.

and relive all the things that made you fall in love with Bloomington.
Join us for the ultimate display of IU spirit, pride, and tradition! The parade kicks off at 17th
Street and follows Woodlawn Avenue to the Indiana Memorial Union. Start Homecoming weekend right with food trucks, family activities, and fireworks! IUAA members - be on the lookout for the IUAA member tent along the parade route and check-in for a special gift!
The Hoosiers take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, October 13th.

Hoosiers Out Together Conference - October 26-27

Hoosiers Out Together Conference (HOT CON), hosted by IUPUI, is organizing its second annual event which will be held on IUPUI's campus October 26 and 27, 2018.

Staff Spotlight - Reuben Riffin, Associate Director of Alumni Communities

The IU LGBTQ+ AA is proud to announce Reuben
Rifin who began his role as the Associate Director of Alumni Communities in early August. His portfolio contains the African American Arts Institute Alumni Association, Asian Alumni Association, Groups Alumni Association, Latino Alumni Association, LGBTQ+ Alumni Association, the Neal Marshall Alumni Club, as well as serving as liaison to the Office of the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (OVPDEMA).
Reuben
, works closely with Rachel Jones McAfee, Director of Alumni Communities and Volunteer Management and Herb Caldwell, the Director of Development and External Relations for OVPDEMA, to implement strategy and establish community building efforts with our Alumni Communities and all OVPDEMA directors.
Reuben hails from Naples, Florida and comes from a small, close knit family. Raised to be a servant leader, he is the son of Haitian immigrants who serve as a nurse and minister. He is an alumnus of Bethune-Cookman University which is a Historically Black College and University in Daytona Beach, Florida. There he earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in broadcast journalism. He served as Student Government Association President and as the Vice President of the Delta Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Reuben also has a Masters of Education degree from the University of Missouri - St. Louis. While in St. Louis he served dual roles at Harris-Stowe State University as an admissions counselor and male initiatives coordinator. He most recently served as
Senior Assistant Director for Recruitment at IU Bloomington's Office of Admissions and is an active member of the Sigma Kappa Lambda Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
