Your LGBTQ* Services Update for the Week of October 15 - October 21, 2018
LGBTQ* Services News and Announcements
OUTober Fest Is Here!
OUTober Fest gives us a time to bring together events that educate, advocate, and celebrate LGBTQ* folks and give you a little fall flair as the seasons change! 🎃🍁🍂
And in this month we're celebrating with a bunch of events both from us here at LGBTQ* Services, and from organizations around campus! You can find more detailed information about these events below. So mark your calendars with all these great events and have a great OUTober Fest!
International Pronouns Day
"International Pronouns Day seeks to make asking, sharing, and respecting personal pronouns commonplace. Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity, but many transgender and gender nonconforming people are regularly called by the wrong pronouns, which can lead them to feel invisible and marginalized.

“Our workplaces and campuses should be places of empowerment and care for others. Using the right pronouns to refer to a person is affirming and respectful,” said Shige Sakurai (they), the campaign’s founder and the creator of the educational MyPronouns.org website.

The first International Pronouns Day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17, 2018." From the official website for International Pronouns Day; pronounsday.org

We would like to encourage you all to take part in International Pronouns Day by openly communicating about your pronouns, and asking others about theirs! You can also participate in other was too such as;
  • Use the #PronounsDay hashtag.
  • Post your own pronouns on social media.
  • Invite members of the community to individually share resources and thoughts on social media about the importance of using the correct pronouns for people.
  • Sharing some of these resources on your social media pages! (Making sure that you give credit to who created the content!)
International Pronouns Day:
Pizza and Pronouns
As part of International Pronouns Day, LGBTQ* Services is hosting Pizza and Pronouns! An empowering discussion on the use of pronouns in our everyday lives over some great pizza! Come out to learn more about pronouns use, and why it is important to recognize and understand the different ways that people use pronouns in the world.

Each bag contains food from the major food groups. If you want to come pick up a bag, come to the Center and speak with one of our staff members who can show you to where we keep the pantry.
