When Saying Thanks Simply Is Not Enough:

A Special Year for LGC

This is my favorite time of the year. I know, I know – overpriced goods and not enough of them, crowded shops and restaurants or packages not delivered on time, crazy weather, relatives, and all the other things we shouldn’t be focused on. We should be thankful for good health if we have it, and if we don’t, people to care for us, plenty to eat, our jobs, great friends, and most of all He whose name is in the title, Christ mas. All we need to be joyful is to know His story in full. I hope this year has been good to you, and for you. I know some of you have suffered illness, loss, and other disappointments. I am sorry and pray this season of birth and renewal offers you healing and peace.

I would like to acknowledge something a fantastic group of over 50 of our LGC family accomplished again this year. They raised over $4,300.00 (this was even more since many of the shoppers added more while they were shopping) personally, to buy gifts and food for children and families who are struggling this Christmas. They shopped, gave up their lunch hour, for a wrap and snack to get all the gifts ready, and then helped deliver them. A special blessing was when one employee's young son paid for another child’s Christmas, all from his own money. I think he gets the spirit of Christmas best of all. To watch all the love, fellowship, and great attitudes while this took place was very touching. Over 25 people will have a little something more to celebrate this Christmas thanks to this phenomenal group.

This is a special year for LGC, since it is our 45th anniversary. Many folks did not think that LGC, or LGDPC as we were known then, would last even five years. Because of Providence, some brave pioneers, great customers and staff, and a dedicated, principled Board of Directors, we are still here and going stronger than ever. To say thanks to all our wonderful, loyal customers is simply not enough. We simply commit to providing you with the best products and support.

We are very near the end of testing the suite of products that make up all the products that about 75% of you use. We are already running the Financial Management software in one beta site and will soon be in the second. The good news is that this new software can run on either your on-site server, or in the cloud. We will begin deploying it to everyone as soon as it has been thoroughly tested. The remaining software is in the process of being lifted to the cloud and we look forward to the completion of this entire project.

We are proud to announce that our new website is up and running. When you access www.localgovernmentcorporation.com or www.lgc-tn.com (we tried to get LGC without the "-tn", but it was taken) you will see the new beautiful look and feel decided on and developed by some of our creative staff. It is easier to navigate, more informative, up-to-date, and appealing. This is phase one. When you log in to the customer portal, you will be directed to the current site – it will be renovated next and is a bit more involved. That is phase two. Then we will begin to add more specifics to customize your experience to your package use and office type. This is phase three. Phase four will make this your one stop login for all things LGC, even logging in to your software, if it is hosted in the cloud. You will receive more specific information from our Marketing department in an email, so be on the lookout for it! I am very proud of this, but more than that, the people and attitudes that made it happen.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and the rest of the holiday season. We are very grateful for all of you and pray you are safe and happy.

God Bless and keep you all until we meet again.

Diligent Cybersecurity Practice Reminders:

Cybercrimes are on the rise around the world and both personal identity and financial information theft continue to increase. It is critical to protect your office's data from attack - both internal and external.

It is common this time of year for scammers and cybercriminals to try to take advantage of you while you are distracted with the holidays, and probably purchasing many items online. Here are a few tips to help you avoid scammers and cybercriminals.

  • Microsoft will never contact you by phone directly or use a pop up on your computer to tell you something is wrong. If you receive a full screen message or an alarm starts going off on your computer, it is probably a scammer.

  • Did you call for support on an issue? Are you unsure if the person who is calling you is legitimate? Rather than proceeding with the call, hang up and call them back, on the number from the company’s website.

  • Did you receive an email from someone and you aren't sure if the email is legitimate? Give them a call to be safe. Email is incredibly easy to make it look like it is coming from someone else. Make sure you know who you are communicating with.

  • Links and attachments – DO NOT CLICK OR OPEN THEM!!! – if you were not expecting an attachment or a link from someone, give the sender a call to verify it was sent by them. Only open items you have verified who they are from. If you are going to open an attachment, make sure the computer you are opening it on has some type of Antivirus or advanced protection installed.

  • Reboots – Your computer needs to be rebooted periodically to apply windows and other updates to your system. LGC recommends you reboot your computer once a week, or 2 times a month at a minimum.

Cybersecurity Services:

LGC offers multi-factor authentication (MFA) service named Sentry. Sentry is powered by industry leader, Duo Security. Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) requires you to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application, online account, or a VPN. MFA is a core component of a strong identity and access security policy.

The need for an efficient backup and an equally effective recovery plan is now more important than ever. The time it takes to restore your data and the quality of that data is extremely important. Ensuring your office has a clean copy of your data saves time and money if your office experiences events requiring data recovery. While you may not be able to prevent the unavoidable from occurring, you can have a recovery strategy in place.

Fortress provides real-time visibility of suspicious behavior or unauthorized system changes on your network. Fortress uses an advanced monitoring and detection software that helps identify a broad range of attacks and places you in the position of preventing such activity instead of just reacting to the all too real consequences.
