Protecting the Land that Protects the Lake since 1988 | | LGLC Protects 993 Acres in Fort Ann | | |
The Lake George Land Conservancy has permanently protected 993 acres of forested land in Fort Ann with a conservation easement. The property includes 94 acres of freshwater ponds and wetlands, including Sly Pond and most of The Three Ponds.
The protected property is on Sly Pond Rd, and is part of Camp Wakpominee, owned by the Twin Rivers Council. The Camp Wakpominee Conservation Easement shares more than 1 mile of its boundary with NYS DEC protected land to the north and to the southwest. The LGLC’s Schumann Preserve at Pilot Knob lies 1/4-mile west of the newly protected land.
This addition of nearly 1,000 protected acres expands the large, connected wild lands of Lake George’s south basin, increasing natural benefits such as wildlife habitat, clean air, clean water, recreation, and scenic beauty.

| | Schumann Preserve Gazebo Project Underway! | | | | |
The Schumann Preserve at Pilot Knob's Gazebo Reconstruction Project has begun! Staff and volunteers joined Tahawus Trails to take down the structure on April 7.
Construction of the new Teresa M. and George E. Lawrence Memorial Gazebo, as well as associated trail work, will continue through mid-May. The trails will remain open during this time, though the trail closest to the gazebo may be rerouted when necessary. Follow the trail markers to ensure you are staying on the correct path.
| | |
During this construction time, please use the preserve respectfully and do not disturb the workers or construction space.
Many thanks to the volunteers who helped, and a huge shout-out to Advance Rental and Supply for donating use of equipment and for hauling out two loads of wood and trash from the demolition.
